Mason Christian McLaws

The beautiful soul, and adored brother, son, husband and friend, Mason Christian McLaws passed away at age 24 on August 22, 2022. Mason will always be remembered for his courage and fight during difficult times. Those who knew Mason, even just a little, lost a shining light in their lives. Mason will be missed every day by his parents (Brian and Lisa), his brothers (Monte, Miles, and Matt), and his amazing wife (Annie). We will cherish the good times we had together until we meet again.
Mason loved to chat with people, joke around, work on cars, make investments, read, and listen to literature, watch, and play sports including basketball, golf, and snowboarding. He was always willing to help those in need and could befriend anyone he met. Mason loved to go on trips, hike in Boulder, Utah (or anywhere in nature), fix computers, sing, and play the violin, and eat out. His favorite foods included sushi, Dairy Queen, Cheesecake Factory, and a close second was an egg mcmuffin from McDonald s (which he had in common with his favorite people-Warren Buffet and Grandma Carol). He often quoted literature and inspirational sayings like we are more alike my friends than we are unalike by Maya Angelou. He and his wife even adopted a puppy, Lily, that reminded them of the hound dogs, Little Ann and Big Dan, in Where the Red Fern Grows. Lily became a central part of their lives bringing endless hours of joy and adventure.
Mason graduated from Viewmont High School in 2016 and loved being a member of the concert choir and worked as a peer tutor. The students he worked with helped him be a better person and he would often bring the lessons he learned home to benefit our family.
However, it was Mason s time spent in the Oakland/San Francisco, California mission that changed his path forever. He loved the people he worked with there and learned to speak Fijian. He embraced the culture and was warmed by their goodness and hospitality. One sister from his mission described Mason as white on the outside, but his heart was Polynesian missionaries called him toko aka brother. Not long after returning from his mission in 2018, he met the love of his life-Annie, while attending the University of Utah. She made life sweeter in every way. Mason and Annie were sealed for time and all eternity in the Oquirrh Mountain Temple on June 26th, 2020. They took long drives together, sometimes singing at the top of their lungs to their favorite songs. They weathered the death of Lily together and made plans for the future including buying a house in Tooele right by the temple, which they were able to realize. Marrying Annie, Mason always said, was the best decision of his life. He only wanted the best for her and recently, was found asking others to take care of her and watch over her.
Mason was so good and fought hard to the end to make Annie and himself happy. He loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and was committed to a forever family.
Mason, you will live on in our hearts. We will take you with us and know that you are watching over us every step of the way. We will get to work on living our best lives, so we can be together again, and we ll finish fixing up that old white Mercedes in our driveway in your name. Love you, Mase, until we meet again.
A viewing will be held Friday, August 26, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 27, 2022, from 10:00-10:45 a.m. The Funeral service in Mason s honor will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2022. Both viewings and the funeral will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 2110 North Main Street, Centerville, Utah.
Services will be streamed live on the Russon Brothers Mortuary Facebook page and on this obituary page. The live stream will begin about 10-15 minutes prior to the service and will be posted below.
