Matthew R. Bishop

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew R. Bishop on January 3, 2025, at the age of 33. Matthew was a 2009 graduate of Pocono Mountain East High School, where he was an Honor Student and Football player. He was highly respected by all of the teachers and staff at Pocono Mountain East. He went on to graduate from Wilkes University in 2013, with a Bachelor's Degree in English Education. He often reflected fondly on the teachers, coaches, and friends that shaped his high school and college years. Upon graduating from college Matthew moved to North Carolina to escape the cold Pocono winters, where he dedicated his life to teaching and coaching He also earned his M.BA. Most recently, he taught English and Sports Marketing and coached football at Northern Guilford High School in Greensboro, NC. He touched the lives of hundreds of students and athletes. In addition to being a devoted educator, Matt also spent his time working as a personal trainer for adaptive athletes. Matthew loved football and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also had a love of learning, and enjoyed reading and working out. Mathew was full of integrity and had strong values. He was liked by everyone who knew him.
Matthew is survived by his parents, Robert C. Bishop (partner Alyson) and
Cheryl A. Bishop (partner Jessica), brother Ryan, sister Jessica, step-sister Olivia, grandmother Rosemarie McLeod, loving aunts and uncles, and numerous beloved cousins. Matthew has left his family with many fond memories. Anyone who had the honor of knowing him will remember him with joy.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Robert and Patricia Bishop. grandfather John C. McLeod, uncle Jeff Jenkins, and aunt Gady Bishop.
Services for Matthew will be private at the request of his family.
