Maurine Keisel went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 2, 2023. She was born in Corry, PA, the daughter of Violet and Maurice Lilley on October 31, 1939.
Maurine graduated from Corry Area High School in 1957 and from Hamot Hospital School of Nursing, Erie, PA in 1961 as a Registered Nurse.
She married her beloved husband Glenn on April 7, 1962. They were blessed with three children and two grandchildren. Maurine loved her family and cherished spending time with them.
Maurine had a lifelong interest in music, singing, playing piano and guitar. She was a vocal soloist at many events in her lifetime. She enjoyed photography, writing poetry, gardening, and all the beauty of nature.
A member of Bethany Lutheran Church since 1963, she sang with the choir and the Women's Ensemble for many years. She also taught Sunday School and along with her husband Glenn, served as youth group advisors.
Maurine was a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN). Her nursing career focus was to develop health care programs to improve the quality of life for those in need. She developed a Restorative Nursing Program at a nursing home in the Ashtabula area in the early 1970s and managed that program for twelve years. She also assisted in the development of other Restorative Nursing Programs.
Maurine had a great interest in Parish Nursing and Health Ministry. In 1992, she introduced Parish Nursing and Health Ministry to the Ashtabula area serving as a Parish Nurse at Bethany Lutheran Church. As a Parish Nurse/Health Ministry Coordinator and Consultant, she assisted in the development of other Parish Nurse/Health Ministry Programs.
In 1969 Maurine wrote and received a $25,000 grant from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to develop Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers of Ashtabula County. This National Caregiver Ministry, also known as Faith in Action, continues to serve the Ashtabula area.
Maurine had also worked as a Registered Nurse at Ashtabula County Medical Center, and as a Certified Rehabilitation RN, assisting her husband Glenn at his Private Physical Therapy office (Keisel Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation).
During her nursing career, Maurine was an active member of the American Nurses Association, Ohio Nurses Association, Association of Rehabilitation Nurses, Health Ministries Association, Nurses Christian Fellowship and Hamot Hospital Alumni Association.
Maurine also had a great interest in preserving and restoring old barns and was a member of Friends of Ohio Barns.
In retirement, Glenn and Maurine enjoyed traveling to visit their children and grandchildren and looked forward to warm winters in their Florida home.
Maurine is survived by her daughter, Glenda (Sunny) Keisel of Ashtabula; son, Mark (Jodie) Keisel of FL; granddaughter, Amber Keisel and grandson, John Keisel; sister, Vina Merritt; brother, Elbert (Lila) Lilley; sister-in-law, Vicki Lilley; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Glenn on January 30, 2017; her beloved son, Glenn Adam Keisel in 2002; her parents, Violet and Maurice Lilley; sister, Lenore Benson; brother, Hal Lilley; and brother-in-law, Carmen Merritt.
A calling hour will be held from 11AM-12PM with a service to follow at 12 Noon on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 933 Michigan Avenue, Ashtabula. Rev. Duane Ball will officiate. Burial will be in Saybrook Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church or the charity of one's choice.
