Merlin "Kent" Overholser, 87, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at his home. He was born Aug. 14, 1934 in Elkhart, IN and has been a resident of Vernon Hills for the past 46 years. He was a 1956 graduate of Purdue University and was a US Navy LCDR veteran of 21 years, having served in Vietnam. Kent was a member and honorary Past Master of the Libertyville Masonic Lodge, Worthy Patron of the Libertyville Eastern Star and a member of the White Shrine. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Libertyville, enjoyed traveling, was an avid reader and could fix anything and often did for his family and many friends.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Virginia "Elaine" Overholser; 3 children, Mark Overholser Sr., Kim Aument and Carol (Robert) Meder; 3 Grandchildren, Eric (Amanda) Daluga, Mark (Rebecca) Overholser Jr. and Janelle Overholser; 3 Great Grandchildren, Camden, Harper and Eli; 2 sisters, Gayle (Loren) Shaum, Cheryl (Gordon) Brown and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Doris Overholser, by his son-in-law, Wayne Aument and brother, Ron Overholser.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 am until time of services at 2:00 pm on Sat. March 19, 2022 at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.) Libertyville with Pastor Brian Paulson, officiating. Following the service, he will be given Masonic Honors by the Libertyville Lodge and military honors by the US Navy will conclude the services.
