Michael Cowan

Funeral services for Michael Harvey Cowan, 60, of Ferriday, LA will be held at 2 PM on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Young's Funeral Home Ferriday with Casey Young officiating. Internment will follow at Cypress Grove Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Young's Chapel in Ferriday from 5 PM until 8 PM.
Michael was born on Monday, August 16, 1965 in Alexandria, LA. and passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025 at H. Cooper Black State Park in Cheraw, SC. He grew up in the Frogmore and Dunbarton area, where he learned early on how to hunt ducks, stir the pot, and drive his family absolutely crazy - sometimes all in the same day. A proud member of Dunbarton Baptist Church, he believed in God, but Lord knows he tested everyone else's patience. As a superintendent and inspector in the pipeline industry, Michael called things like he saw them - usually with a few colorful words in between.
He loved deer hunting, but duck hunting was his real passion. When he wasn't outdoors, he was either watching girls' softball or hollering at the TV during college football. He was the self-proclaimed "favorite child," though that title is still under family review. His momma said he had a split personality, and his brother just called him an asshole - both were probably right.
He'd grin and say, "Taylor, you got a job yet?" and "These SOBs can't drive!" - and somehow, you'd love him anyway.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Albert and Alice Cowan, maternal grandparents, Leroy and Sally Book, and father-in-law, Jesse Davis.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 33 years, Mandy Davis Cowan of Ferriday, LA, his son, Jon Michael Cowan of Ferriday, LA; parents, Harvey and Ann Cowan of Ferriday, LA; sister, Janice Coleman of Ferriday, LA, brother, Harvey Cowan Jr. (Shannon) of Monterey, LA, sister, Jessica Prudhomme (Brent) of Bossier City, LA; special niece, Emmerlyn Davis who he loved and she loved him, and called him Paw Mike; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. His pets, Lena, Jake, Jasper, and Eva. The family asks that donations be made to the NRA and Ducks Unlimited.
Those honoring Michael as pallbearers will be Cody Davis, Logan Prudhomme, Joshua Cowan, Ryan Lynch, Braxton Davis, and Robert Young.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Shawn Hollis, Jay White, Randy White, Nick Young, Zach Franklin, Christopher Cowan, Brent Prudhomme and Brandy Davis
