Michael W. Helms, age 59, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Born in New Orleans on October 4, 1965, Michael remained rooted in the city he loved throughout his life. A proud graduate of Brother Martin High School, and Our Lady of Holy Cross College. Michael had a lifelong passion for science, and the outdoors. He found joy in nature, curiosity in learning, and peace in quiet moments, always offering a thoughtful presence to those around him. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Ronald W. Helms, and his stepfather, Donald O. Heumann. He is survived by his mother, Judy Talbot Helms Heumann Tullis, and his stepfather, Eli Tullis. He is also survived by his brother Stephen Helms, sister-in-law Kathy Fuller Helms, and beloved nieces Hayden Helms, and Emma Helms. Michael also leaves behind many dear relatives from the Helms, Talbot, Heumann, and Tullis families who will carry his memory with love, and gratitude.
Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Michael’s life and his legacy. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 pm, and a Mass at 1:00 pm on Friday July 25 at Holy Name of Mary Church at 400 Verret Street, New Orleans, LA. Interment, Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Family and friends may view and sign the online guest book at www.mothefunerals.com.
Michael will be remembered for his kind spirit, gentle heart, and the quiet strength with which he lived."
