Gregory Michael Johnson, age 69, was born on April 29, 1956 in
New Orleans, Louisiana and left this world unexpectedly on June 28, 2025. A New Orleans native and longtime resident of Shreveport, Louisiana, Greg was preceded in death by his father John A. Johnson Jr. and mother Dorise Gean Johnson. In addition to numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends, left to cherish Greg's memory are his siblings Elizabeth Dean (Melvin), John Johnson (Diane), Mary Ann LaForge (Mike), Jeannie Hardouin (Larry), daughter Ashley and her mother Peggy Gremillion, stepchildren, Kandy (Ben), James (DeAnn) and Jason (Heather) grandchildren Kenley, Nate, Kingston, Micah, Steele and Slade, sweet puppies Winston and Allie, and his loving wife of 24 years, Lisa. Greg graduated from Brother Martin High School in 1974 and was a proud member of the state champion Crusaders football team. Greg spent long hours working for UPS while attending the University of New Orleans. Greg graduated from UNO with a degree in accounting. Following graduation Greg accepted a sales position with Gordon's Jewelers. After 45 years in the jewelry industry Greg retired as Senior Vice President of Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry in 2023. Greg was involved in many organizations including but not limited to The Rotary Club, the Shreveport Regional Arts Council, the Independence Bowl, the Ambassadors Club, the Salvation Army, the Krewe of Justinian and BEI. Greg loved nothing more than spending time with his friends and family. On any given day you could find Greg at the Pilates studio, on the pickleball court, or visiting with neighbors on his daily walk. He loved working outside and then cooling off in the pool followed by a well-deserved rest in his recliner watching sports. A lifelong LSU Tigers fan, Greg attended hundreds of football games at Tiger Stadium and beyond. Greg enjoyed his hobbies, but he enjoyed his friends and family even more. A consummate storyteller, Greg could hold court at the kitchen counter, or a five-star restaurant all the while keeping his guests engaged, entertained and laughing at stories of childhood hijinks and colorful characters from his past. Greg enjoyed traveling and good meals in the finest restaurants, but you were most likely to find him on the patio of The Oyster Bar with his "sweet lady" Lisa by his side. Evenings with Greg often ended with a Michelob Ultra by the pool or the fire pit, sharing jokes, stories and laughter-family and sweet puppies by his side. Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle and friend were all important titles to Greg, but his favorite was probably "Pop Pop". Greg loved nothing more than spending time on the sidelines cheering on his grandchildren. After retirement, Greg split his time between North and South Louisiana attending dance recitals, band concerts, field days, award ceremonies and football games. Nothing made him prouder than bragging on his grandchildren. Pop Pop was the grandfather every kid dreams of. From Disney trips to launching "moonshots" in the pool Pop Pop was always there for his grandkids with a joke, a word of encouragement and a sneaky hand ready to steal another French fry. We take comfort in knowing that the huge hole Greg left in our hearts will be filled with a lifetime of love, laughter and cherished memories. Visitation will be held at Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home on July 12 from 10:00-12:00 with a Catholic funeral mass to follow. A Celebration of Greg's Life will be held at the Robinson Film Center in Shreveport, La. on August 2 from 2:00-5:00. Pallbearers will be Brett Johnson, Garrett Johnson, Jason Kline, James Kline, Ben Mathis, and Nate Mathis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine or the charity of your choosing.
