Michael James McDowell 49 of Nicholasville, KY departed this life to join his son on December 5, 2023, peacefully at home with his wife and daughters by his side. He was born August 11, 1974, in Ravenna, Ohio. He was the son of James and Georgette McDowell of North Carolina and the Grandson of the late Donald and Patrica Kovacs and William and Anna McDowell. He was preceded in death by his son Matthew James McDowell.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 26 years, Melissa McDowell, his beautiful daughters; Maddison (Kody) Smith of Kentucky, Makayla McDowell of Kentucky and Mallory McDowell of Kentucky; his sister Colleen (Michael) Murphy of North Carolina and a large amount of cherished family members.
Michael loved his family with his whole heart, he was a kind and courageous man who fought cancer with all he had for seven months until he lost his battle. He was a great husband, father and friend.
The family would like to thank the UK Markey Cancer Center's Doctors and Nurses for their endless support and care and a big thank you to all the family and friends for their love, care, support and prayers throughout his battle.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2023 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Harrodsburg Rd. Visitation will be 1:30-3:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the UK Markey Cancer Center, P.O. Box 34184, Lexington KY 40588.
