Mickie D. Shanklin, 77, of Hamilton, NJ, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Capital Health Medical Center - Hopewell in Hopewell, NJ surrounded by his children.
Born in Linton, IN, Mr. Shanklin was an honorably discharged US Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. In total, he gave 24 years to the Armed Forces of the United States, 22 of them with the Air National Guard. He went on to receive his bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Trenton State. Mr. Shanklin worked as a Supervisor for the US Federal District Court in Trenton, NJ until his retirement in 2008.
Mick was an avid sports fan who loved spending his time watching Notre Dame Football and the Green Bay Packers. He was a passionate coach for youth sports. He spent many years coaching soccer, basketball, and baseball, and it was through coaching that he touched many lives. He coached at St. Gregory the Great, Hamilton Pal, Hamilton Little Lads, Nottingham Little League, and HTRGSA. In addition to coaching, he volunteered for many programs and organizations. He was a proud member of the Vietnam Veterans serving as an Officer, Nottingham Squares where he was a former President, and he was a devoted member of the Armed Forces Heritage Museum. He assisted with the food concession stands for basketball games, as a carnival worker at the zeppole booth for 20 years and was even the announcer for football games at Steinert while his son played for the Spartans. His most recent accomplishment was being inducted into the CYO Hall of Fame for his many years of service to the organization. When Mick wasn't coaching or volunteering for local organizations, he enjoyed bowling, backyard barbecues, and spending time with his seven grandchildren sharing his wisdom, stories, and knowledge.
Predeceased by his parents, William and Wanda Mae (Cox) Shanklin; and his wife, Anne Marie (Larkin) Shanklin; he is survived by his children, Michael and Crystal Shanklin, Brian Shanklin, and Jennifer and Erik Wilson; his siblings Keiko Torgerson and Bill Shanklin; his grandchildren, McKenna, Riley, Noah, Dana, Samantha, Michael and Brandon; and his several cousins, extended family and close friends.

I always enjoyed spending time with Mickie and Anne Marie with activities through the Junior Contemporary Club of Trenton. We had many, many fun times, especially with the progressive dinners and community outreach projects. I was so happy to see and spend a little time with Mickie at his
grandson's basketball game recently. Heartfelt thoughts and prayers for the family. Barb
