Mildred Maxine Ullian (nee Huffington)
Age 98, died on April 22, 2025, in Shorewood IL.
She was born in Normal IL on August 27, 1926, to Bernard and Edith (nee Koepke) Huffington. Mildred graduated from Normal Community High School. She was married in Bloomington IL in 1946 to John A. Ullian.
She is survived by their three children John A. (Jeanne) Ullian Jr. of Falcon Heights MN, Linda (Lou) Kaducak of Plainfield IL, and James (Kathy) Ullian of New Lenox IL. Also surviving are four grandchildren Marc (Sarah) Kaducak, Kris (James) Cardamone, Scott (Lisa) Ullian, Jeff (Jennifer) Ullian, eight great-grandchildren Lucas Kaducak, Phoebe Kaducak, Courtney Cardamone, Gianna Cardamone, Eric (Natalie) Ullian, MacKenzie Ullian, Anthony Ullian, Michael Ullian, one great-great-granddaughter Hazel Ullian. She is survived by her sister Linda Otto of Hudson IL and sister-in-law Martha Huffington of Minier, IL and many nieces and nephews who called her Aunt Max.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years John Ullian, her parents, her sisters Betty, Mary, Lucille, Deloris, and Dorothy, and her brothers Frank, Edward, and Richard.
Mildred retired as a purchasing agent from Shelby-Craftco in Joliet IL and Shorewood and had also worked at State Farm Insurance in Bloomington IL, Goldblatt's Department Store in Joliet, and at the Joliet Arsenal. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, making crafts, and sewing - including for her grandchildren's scouting, baseball, bowling, and other club and school activities. And then there were the many mug rugs in her later years! As her children, it seems we were always rolling up balls of yarn for knitting projects and searching for pins or needles in the carpet before someone stepped on them – and we apologize to our late father for not finding them all in time! She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved country music "when country wasn't cool" and listening to country music while traveling to Nashville and surrounding areas. She will also be remembered by out-of-town relatives and others for the boxes of neatly arranged and securely packed Christmas cookies she sent for many years. We thank all those who helped us take care of her late in life, especially the kind and compassionate staff at Alden Courts and Lightways Hospice..
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Wednesday, April 30th at 11:00 A.M. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to Lightways Hospice in Mildred's name will be appreciated. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until time of services at 11:00 A.M.
