Myron Francis Shlatz, 89, of Endwell, NY, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024. He was born on March 11, 1935 in Johnson City, NY. Myron is predeceased by his parents, Myron and Anna Maslak Shlatz, his wife Barbara Murphy Shlatz, his son Richard Shlatz, and daughter Deborah Lynn Shlatz. He is survived by his daughter Katherine (Kathi) Shlatz Latson (Tim), his grandson Alexander T. Maki (Tina Barbasch Maki), his sister Linda Shlatz Henderson, two nieces Lauren Henderson (Nathan Ali) and Kristin Henderson O'Brien (Daniel), his grand-nephew Quinn O'Brien and his grand-niece, Ashley O'Brien. He is also survived by his cousin, Michael Maslak Jr., and his two first cousins once removed Katherine (Katie Madson) and Julia, as well as their respective children Brooke Madson and Magnolia Langston.
He attended Johnson City High School where he excelled in academics, music, and sports. He attended St. John's Ukrainian Orthodox Church where he learned the art of Ukrainian dancing and singing traditional folk songs. When young, Myron worked on the Shlatz family farm in Connecticut. He spent many summer days watching the Triplets play at Johnson Field and playing sports of all kinds with his friends. He fished with his dad and they went to the movies all day on Saturdays. Myron's mom Anna was an amazing cook and baker, and he loved her holupki and kolachkies especially. He also loved his Uncle Mike, Uncle Pete, and Aunt Julie Maslak, and played many pranks on them all, including his grandmother (baba), Katherine Maslak.
Myron attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, pledged TKE, sang in Glee Club, and played baseball as a pitcher. He received a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1957 and began a 35-year career with IBM. He was awarded several patents and received two Invention Achievement Awards. Together with his family, IBM took them to new adventures in New Jersey, Kentucky, and Colorado, finally returning to the Triple Cities.
Myron was a man who lived his life to the fullest and with great enjoyment! He was an amazing singer and spent many hours performing with Lexington Singers, Tri-Cities Opera, Binghamton Symphony Chorus, and St. John's Choir. He loved fishing with his father-in-law, discussing the current state of the Yankees with his son-in-law Tim, seeing his grandson graduate from Cornell, visiting his sister near Philadelphia, picking mushrooms with John, tending his lovely flower-filled backyard, being a member of the Elks Club, making wine, walking his huskies Jack and Kai, chatting with neighbors, and enjoying the wonders of nature... he always preferred taking the back roads. He loved God, his family, his church, and all of his extended family: the Soliwoda and Morello families, and the Shlatz family members from Connecticut. He will be forever missed.

As a very close by neighbor, I will especially miss our usual summer drinks and laughs on the patio. We always came upon something in our talks that brought us together. Especially on the topic of gardening. I will be thinking about him this March 12 in Florida, my birthday, as I just read that his was on the 11th which I never knew.

Kathie and Tim, I´m so sorry for your loss of Myron. I was looking forward to having another drink on the house deck with Myron as the summer wore on as we had become closer neighbors in the last few summers with our occasional drinks together. I was amazed at the garden and lawn work he could still do as I viewed from my house and especially enjoyed the luscious beauty of all his perennials this past June with our last drink together. Sincerely, William Bronner
