Nancy Marie Friedrich
Nancy Marie Friedrich was born in Cameron, Texas on May 21, 1936, and passed away at home in Round Rock, Texas on October 24, 2022, at the age of 86.
Born to Audley and Gladys Holley, she was raised and would live much of her life in Houston. As a young teen she believed the good news of Jesus and trusted Him as her Savior. That faith inspired her quiet, consistent, and patient love for her family, neighbors, coworkers, and friends.
As an older teen she would meet and begin corresponding with a young sailor, Edwin R. Friedrich, Jr. (Fred), who would become her lifelong companion. She graduated as an honor roll student from Reagan High School in 1954, where she played drums on the Redcoats Drill Team. After high school, Nancy attended Texas State Teachers College, excelling in administrative support coursework. Nancy and Fred were married April 23, 1955 and established their home in Houston.
Nancy's early employment included work as a secretary for Chevrolet Motor Division, and as legal secretary for Gulf Oil. She later learned tax preparation from H & R Block, where she worked part time for several years. After she and Fred became empty nesters, they moved to Austin in 1984 where she worked in administrative support roles for Brent Rauhut Engineering, and later for the University of Texas (UT) in the Adult Fitness Program and the Department of Cellular and Molecular Biology. She retired from UT in 1998.
Nancy was a gifted, creative person. She learned to paint in her 30s and adorned her home with several beautiful paintings and other decorations that remain to this day. She loved gardening, pursuing and gaining an extensive knowledge of plants, shrubs, and flowers, which she used to adorn the outsides of her homes as well. She learned sewing at an early age (even sewing her own wedding dress) and was an accomplished seamstress throughout her life. She would make many clothes for her sons and especially loved sewing clothes and other gifts for her beloved grandchildren.
Above all, Nancy loved her family. God blessed her and Fred with four sons, and despite being outnumbered by the males, she was a strong, independent, and beautiful, woman who taught her family well how to love and live. She is also blessed with 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, plus two more on the way!
Nancy is survived by Fred, her husband of 67 years; her brother and sister-in-law Waymon and Nona Holley; her sons and their wives, Dean and Sherril, Mark and Roseanna, Eric and Sherri, Glenn and Gail; her grandchildren (and their spouses), Sean, Matt (and Megan), Tiffany (and Tyler), Ashley (and Cameron), Joel (and Lindsay), Case, Bradley, Shannon (and Eric), Jacob, Jonathan (and Sarah), Paul, Philip (and Carrie), and Michael (and Makayla). Her great grandchildren include Edwin; Lily, Owen, and Lucy; Savannah; Peyton, William, and Brooklynn; Jackson, Carson, Audrey, and Evelynn; James, Daniel, and Penelope; Emmerson and Bodie.
We are so thankful as a family for all of you who supported and loved Nancy, especially in these later years as she endured the illness that ultimately took her body. We are also grateful and comforted that she lives on even now in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ, whose indestructible life gives her and all who trust in Him, eternal life.
