Nancy M. (McCarthy) Kleinschmidt, 83, of Bristol, passed away at her home on December 21, 2024, with her children by her side. Born on November 24, 1941 in Bristol, CT, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Edith (Russell) McCarthy, Sr. Nancy is survived by her daughter Carrie Kleinschmidt and her wife, Jennifer Whitcomb of Andover; her son, Steven Kleinschmidt and his wife Karen of Bristol; and her stepdaughter Roberta K. Gentile and her husband Gene of Bristol. Nancy also leaves her two sisters; Joan Armet (Brian) of Berlin, Mary L. Reardon (Mark) of Enfield, and her brother Charles A. McCarthy, Jr. of Bristol; six grandchildren Alex, Kevin, Kaylyn, Carolyn, Adriana, and Gina; four great grandchildren Jaxon, Evelena, Leo, and Jack, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son David J. Kleinschmidt, her former husband and best friend/companion, Robert C. Kleinschmidt and also her brother Russell S. McCarthy.
Growing up in Plainville, the family then moved to Bristol in 1959 and she graduated from Bristol Eastern High School with the first graduating class in 1960.
Nancy was a dedicated 32 year employee for Bristol Public Schools as an Administrative Assistant of the Superintendent of Schools & Board of Education working under a total of 5 Superintendents through those years. In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling, shopping, and spending time with family and friends.
She was a member of the National Association of Educational Office Professionals, the Connecticut Association of Educational Office Professionals (Past-President) and also the Bristol Educational Secretaries Association. Nancy was also a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waterbury.
Volunteer activities included 14 years with the United Way of West Central Connecticut, recording secretary for CT Youth & Family Alliance Board of Directors and also the Bristol Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 28 at 10am at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 503 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT. Burial will take place at a later date. Calling hours will be held Friday, December 27 from 4-7pm at DuPont Funeral Home, 25 Bellevue Ave., Bristol
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
