Obituary published on Legacy.com by McDonald and Son Funeral Home and Crematory - Cumming on Apr. 25, 2025.
Nancy Elizabeth Twersky Norton entered heaven on Monday, April 14, 2025. Nancy fought a courageous battle with cancer and passed away peacefully in her
Cumming, Georgia, home surrounded by unconditional love from family. Nancy was 79 years young.
Nancy was born on Sunday, November 25, 1945, in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. Her parents, Theodore and Beverly Twersky, relocated to Hapeville, Georgia, soon after Nancy was born. Hapeville is where Nancy grew up, having attended Humphries Elementary and Walter F. George High School. Upon graduation, she moved to Connecticut to live with her uncle and aunt, Irwin and Dolly Turner, and her cousins, Charlie and Nancy Turner. While there, Nancy attended fashion school in New York City. Nancy had a love for fashion, especially shoes.
After graduating from fashion school, Nancy began working in Atlanta. She continued working and eventually married Willard Norton. They were married in 1968 at Orchard Knob Baptist Church. Willard and Nancy became active members at Sylvan Hills Baptist Church and formed lifelong friendships that continued until her passing.
Willard and Nancy had two children, John and Natalie, and they began their family life in Rex, Georgia. Nancy was employed by Sears and Roebuck, and their family became active members at First Baptist Church of Morrow. In June of 1984, the family moved to West Palm Beach, Florida. They lived there for 26 years, and Nancy would eventually retire from Sears after 42 years of dedication. While in Florida, the family was active in various ministries at First Baptist Church of West Palm Beach. Willard and Nancy moved to
Cumming, Georgia, in 2010 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Nancy always loved Chick-Fil-A. So, after retiring from Sears, she became a part-time employee for the Chick-Fil-A off of exit 14 in Cumming. She found great satisfaction and purpose in greeting and serving guests. She was well known in the dining room and was always a cheerful face who brought joy to both her co-workers and customers. She spoke often about hoping to return to work after her cancer treatments.
Wherever Nancy lived she found a place of worship. Most recently she attended First Redeemer Church in Cumming. Nancy loved people and more specifically she loved fellowship with women. Nancy found a community of women wherever she lived. She was a loyal and dedicated friend whose foundation was always rooted in Christ.
Nancy loved her children and grandchildren. Ethan, Silas, Sadie, and Elijah could find their MeeMaw in the audience for countless recitals, school performances, sporting events, and graduations, including the wedding of her grandson, Ethan. Nancy supported and loved seeing her grandchildren do the things they loved. Nancy was an active and fun grandmother who smiled and laughed with her grandchildren. She gave them valuable lessons and wonderful memories for a lifetime.
Nancy will be remembered for her love for Jesus, her warm smile, her dedication to her family and friends, her ability to laugh at herself, and ultimately the joy she exuded in the midst of a cancer diagnosis.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Beverly Twersky; her uncles and aunts, Irwin and Dolly Turner, Ronald and Elizabeth Barksdale; and her cousins Beverly Martin and Norman Barksdale. She is survived by her husband, Willard Norton; her son John Norton, her daughter-in-law, Ruthie Norton, her grandson, Elijah Norton, her grandson Ethan Norton and his wife, Rachel Norton; her daughter, Natalie Mawdesley, her son-in-law, Scott Mawdesley, her grandson, Silas Mawdesley, and her granddaughter, Sadie Mawdesley; her cousins, Vivian Daughtry, Ronnie Barksdale, Frank Barksdale, Elton Barksdale, John Barksdale, Charles Turner and Nancy Turner.
