Philip M. Sinisgalli, 79, of West Hartford, beloved husband of Katherine Sinisgalli, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, July 26, 2025. Philip was born on September 29, 1945, in Hartford, CT, the son of the late Michael V. and Teresa Sinisgalli and graduated from Hall High School. He went on to attend Fairfield University, where he was sports editor for the newspaper and one of the first to spend an entire year studying abroad in Florence, Italy. After receiving his MBA from the University of Connecticut, he obtained his CFA and went on to have a fulfilling 35-year career in investment banking. Phil began his career at Connecticut Bank & Trust as a buy-side analyst and went on to become Principal and lead of the Hartford region at State Street Global Advisors, finishing his financial career at U.S. Trust. Phil was a proud and engaged Fairfield alumnus and his interests in history, the arts, and music sustained his intellectual curiosity throughout his life and embodied the values of his Jesuit education. Equally athletic and artistic himself, he played the piano, the violin, was a long-time member of the Connecticut Opera Board, belonged to UNICO, coached and led West Hartford Youth Girls Soccer, and was a devoted UConn and Fairfield basketball fan. Phil loved to be surrounded by books and loved reading, learning, and expanding his mind.
Phil is survived by his devoted wife of over 40 years, Katherine Sinisgalli, son Dr. Scott Sinisgalli, daughter-in-law Kristen Sinisgalli, daughter Dr. Sarah Sinisgalli, and sister Filomena Gustafson of West Hartford. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and was a cherished uncle, great uncle, cousin, and was seen as a "brother" and "second father" to many due to his genuine compassion, warmth and selflessness. Phil was a dear friend of many who will forever remember his humor, unwavering support, patience, and strength. He was most content when he was around his family and friends, especially enjoying thoughtful conversations over dinner, watching fireworks, and spending time on the beach admiring the ocean on his favorite place, Martha's Vineyard. Phil was uniformly admired by colleagues and friends alike, with an exceptional ability to make everyone in his presence feel comfortable, appreciated and loved.
Phil had tremendous gratitude and admiration for the care he received at Columbia Presbyterian, especially for the care provided by Dr. Hilary Robbins and Dr. Jessie Wilt. The family would like to recognize the John Dempsey Hospital team for the dedication and compassion they showed at the end of Phil's life.
