Phyllis Smith

Phyllis Duda Smith, age 62, of Erie, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024, at her residence, surrounded by her children, after a courageous battle with Ovarian cancer. She was born in Erie, on March 7, 1961, a daughter of the late Nick and Ethel (Bishop) Duda. Phyllis graduated from Tech Memorial High School in 1980. She had worked at Dahlkemper's corporate office in the 80s, Millcreek food service, Erie City Mission food service, and was a dedicated homemaker.
Phyllis was a volunteer with the Belle Valley Ladies Auxiliary, Second Harvest Food Bank, and the Home House Food Bank. In her words, her greatest accomplishment was raising three beautiful children, and her 2 grandkids were her ultimate reward. She also enjoyed smoking her cigs and finding screaming deals to share with others. When she wasn't filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found outside enjoying sunshine.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Pennington. Survivors include her two daughters, Stephanie Oros (Stephen), and Heather Smith, both of Erie; her son Joshua Smith, of Erie; her grandchildren, Luke and Callie Oros; her brothers, Ricky Duda (Lark McGill), and Thomas Duda (Suzanne), both of Erie; her sister, Sue Duda, of Erie, and Nancy Duda Newara, of North Palm Beach, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt and Son Funeral Home, Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd. on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Memorial Service there at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
