A private family service was held for Ray Vaughn Smith, age 81, formerly of Charlotte, North Carolina, at the home of Stephanie and James Thornton on Monday, May 12, 2025, in Lake Providence, Louisiana.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Kelly Harrison; parents, George Eugene Smith and Jessie Mae Atkinson Smith; three brothers, George Smith, Ben Smith, and David Smith; sister, Letty Morgan.
Ray lived in Charlotte, North Carolina for more than sixty years in his beloved neighborhood in the Bishop Pride Community in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Ray is survived by his wife, Katherine Claudette Gresham Smith of Lake Providence, Louisiana; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and James Thornton of Lake Providence, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Chase Harrison, Chandler Harrison, Jase Thornton (Shelby), Sadie Thornton Pippin (Cole), Lilliekate Thornton; two sisters, Betsy Kane of Houston, Texas and Alice Hibbard of Cramerton, North Carolina.
The family would like to thank everyone for all the calls, text, and prayers.
