Richard Earl Manzi, Sr., 86, of North Andover, passed away Monday, April 7, 2025, after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Fernande (Boucher) Manzi for the last 12 years. Prior to that, he was the beloved husband of Louise (Uliano) Manzi for 55 years, who predeceased him, and leaves behind a large loving family.
Richard ("Dick") Earl Manzi, Sr. was born in Haverhill, Ma on July 16, 1938 to Thomas Peter and Dorothy Muriel (Smith) Manzi. His brilliant smile and laugh was cherished by so many. He attended Central Catholic High School, in Lawrence, and then Lowell Tech. He and Louise had three children. He was a dedicated husband who took such good care of Louise during her illness. Dick and Louise raised their children in Lowell until 1977, then moved to Dunstable, where they lived until 1989. From there, they divided their time between Newport, Vermont and Hollywood, Florida, before moving back to Massachusetts where he resided for the rest of his life. Over the last 12 years, Dick and Fern have enjoyed their travels to Florida and Bermuda, their loving, supportive community in North Andover, and attending the various family gatherings together.
Dick led a purpose-filled life, beginning by serving in the Army and was a very patriotic man. He began his career by managing Manzi Dodge in Lowell, along with the family owned "PJ's Hobby Shop", when his children were young. From there he established Mr. Rent-A-Car in Nashua, NH, followed by a career in banking at Washington Savings Bank, and served on the board of directors of Lowell 5. He was an active participant of his various communities and was a member of the Lions Club and Rotary. More recently he was excited to become a member of the "Sons of the American Revolution" and he enjoyed researching family genealogy. While Dick was a successful businessman, he would say his greatest success was his family. He was so proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He regularly attended their birthday parties, baptisms, and sports activities, etc.
When his kids were young, Dick loved taking the family on vacations in their motorhome. He also enjoyed Ham Radio. He proudly hosted lots of fun pool parties for various family gatherings over the years. Later in life, Dick spent much time fishing and enjoying his grandchildren on Lake Memphremagog, always returning with exciting stories of the fish he caught. Most importantly, Dick was a man devoted to his Christian faith, and a member of St. Michael's Catholic church in North Andover. He was deeply loved by his family and will be sorely missed, but his family takes comfort in knowing they will see him again in heaven one day.
Dick was predeceased by his parents and only sibling, Phyllis (Manzi) Barbagallo. He is survived by his wife, Fernande (Boucher) Manzi, his daughter Paula Jean and her husband Vincent VanLuvender, his son Richard E. Manzi, Jr. and his wife Kathleen, his daughter Lauri Ann and her husband Dan Thompson, his grandchildren Morgan (Eric) Driscoll, Matthew (Randi) Manzi, Mason Manzi, Abby VanLuvender, Jaclyne (Jesse) Ainlay, Alyssa (Wesley) Dauer, Richie (Maggie) Manzi, III, Lea Thompson, Daniel Thompson, and Emma Thompson, his 10 great-grandchildren Owen Manzi, Claire Manzi, Camden Manzi, Charlie Ainlay, Teddy Ainlay, Catie Ainlay, William Dauer, Emily Dauer, Sammy Manzi, and Ella Manzi, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 11:30AM, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 196 Main St, North Andover, Massachusetts, followed by a luncheon at Buono Bistro at 220 Sutton Street, North Andover, MA. The family wishes to thank the staff at High Pointe Hospice in Haverhill, MA, and Cataudella Funeral Home of
Methuen, MA for their kindness and support. Contributions to "Give Kids The World Village" (407-396-1114) may be made in Dick's memory.
