Rita Mae Moss, age 74, entered eternal rest with loved ones by her side on Wednesday, March 26th, 2025, at Franciscan Health Hospital in Indianapolis. Her life began Saturday, May 20th, 1950, in Martinsville, Indiana. Rita was one of four children born to the late Van Edwin and Julia (Wolfe) Moss. She was a lifelong Martinsville resident and attended Martinsville High School, graduating with the class of 1968. Throughout the 1980's, Rita was employed at Kroger in Martinsville before gaining employment at Indiana University. There, she was an administrative assistant to the Executive Director until the day she retired. Rita loved her community and proudly served it. She was a former member of the Morgan County Fall Foliage Festival and enjoyed her time on the 'Classmate Committee.' She also enjoyed cooking, baking, vacationing, being outdoors on a sunny day, and looked forward to Christmas all year long. Rita was a storyteller, practical jokester and a sports enthusiast. Above all, she was a devoted, loving, and dedicated mother and grandmother. There is no doubt her greatest love was her family. Rita will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her children Angela Janes (Douglas) of Greenfield, Indiana and Paul R. Kinder (Bridget) of Ellettsville, Indiana; brother, Doug Moss (Dianna) of Martinsville; sisters, Lois Featherngill of Roanoke, Virginia and Bev Skinner (Lon) of Martinsville; and her grandchildren, Delanie Friesen (Garrett), Sydney Janes, Brettlyn and Braniah Kinder. In honoring Rita's wishes, her earthly remains will be cremated. Her family will host a celebration honoring her life at a later date. Neal & Summers Funeral & Cremation Center has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared with her family at www.nealandsummer.com.

My sincere condolences to Rita's family. I met Rita at a university conference in Santa Barbara. Throughout the years, we shared our enthusiasm for college basketball. Rita nicknamed me "Dickie V" and used "Hannah Storm" as her nickname. During March Madness we always shared our thoughts about the great games.

Rita was a special person and will be missed by everyone. I want to share a quote from one of her favorite movies, The Shawshank Redemption:
"Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of all things, and no good thing never dies." Rita's memory will never die.
