Rita Ann Urey, 69, of Corbin, Kentucky, entered into incorruptible life on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.
Rita was born on October 6, 1955, in Dover, Ohio, to Lester and Ruth "Ann"(Dunfee) Shepard. She grew up in West Lafayette, Ohio, where she graduated with honors from Ridgewood High School.
Soon after, on July 6, 1974, she married her best friend and the love of her life, John Urey, with whom she shared 30 years of marriage until his passing on November 11, 2004.
A devoted homemaker, Rita was known for her strength, unwavering faith, and godly wisdom. She was a dedicated member and volunteer at Brunswick Hills Assembly and attended Word of Life church in West Lafayette. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her kind heart and love for Jesus touched many lives and none more than those of her family. She would say that her greatest accomplishment in life was her children and they would say that she was the greatest mom in the world.
Rita will be deeply missed by her family, including her son, Justin Urey (Alicia) and her daughter, Lauren Urey; her grandchildren, Jace and Tyler Urey; her mother, Ruth "Angie" Shepard, of West Lafayette; and her brother, Lester "Sonny" Shepard.She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Urey, and her father, Lester Shepard.
A graveside service will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23,2024, at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio.
