HILLSBOROUGH–Robert James Blaylock Sr., 67, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. He was born in Durham, the son of Carolyn Caldwell and the late Fred Gordon Blaylock. In addition to his father, Mr. Blaylock is also predeceased by his brother Freddie Blaylock.
Mr. Blaylock graduated from Northern High School in Durham. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1976 to 1981 stationed at Langley AFB, Virginia. After leaving the Air Force he became interested in Heating & Air Conditioning and earned an Associate Degree from Alamance Community College. He was an HVAC service technician for a few years before he was hired by IBM. He had a long career at IBM where he became a Controls Engineer. He retired from IBM in 2017.
Mr. Blaylock had a few hobbies. He loved his German Shepherd dog named Blaze. He had 3 other German Shepherds that passed away before he got Blaze. He owned 2 motorcycles that he liked to ride and work on. He liked building and flying RC model airplanes.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Blaylock is survived by his sister, Tootsie, wife, Judith Blaylock, and son, Robert Blaylock Jr.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 6th at Ellis Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery located at 2516 Levi Lane, Bahama, NC 27503.
