Robert A. McCrillis
Kennebunkport
Robert A. McCrillis, 80, of Kennebunkport, Maine passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on Sunday, May 18, 2025 while doing what he loved, working in the woods. He was born in Rochester, New Hampshire, on May 20, 1944, son of the late Lorraine M. and Arnold H. McCrillis and is survived by his loving wife Suzanne M. of Kennebunkport; their children, Marc (his wife Meghan), Michael (his wife Judy), and Meghan (her fiancé Ryan); their grandchildren Katherine, Matthew, David, and Liliana; and his siblings Arnold McCrillis and Fran Rancourt; and predeceased by his brother Richard McCrillis.
Bob, also known as Mac to many of his life-long friends, graduated from high school in Somersworth, NH and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from Bentley College in Boston, MA, graduating in 1966. That year, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and after training spent a short tour of duty in Germany and completed his service serving in South Vietnam participating in the Tet Offensive where he earned the Army's Distinguished Service Medal. Upon returning to the United States, he attended the University of New Hampshire graduating with an MBA and joining the public accounting firm of Coopers and Lybrand in Boston where he worked for three years, earning his Certified Public Accounting certificate. He returned to Kennebunkport where he had worked summers since his sophomore year in high school and through all his college years at the former seaside resort, the Shawmut Inn, and developed a public accounting practice which he eventually merged into a larger Portland, Maine firm. At that time, he went on to join one of his clients, the New England Business Association, to manage its legal and financial affairs until he sold the operations at the end of 2012.
During that time, he developed, owned, operationally supervised and sold several successful entities, including his 150-acre active tree farm at Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport, the Ocean Energy Propane and Oil Company and his favorite, The Court Yard Health, Fitness and Racquet Facility in Saco, Maine. Upon retirement in 2012, he and his wife purchased and managed several rental resort properties in the Orlando, Florida area as well as a winter residence in Daytona Beach, Florida where they thoroughly enjoyed the warm weather along with the company of many friends and family visitors.
He enjoyed being busy and productive with work and projects, but his family was most important to him. He loved spending time with his family, particularly during his children's growing years, whether it was at the many school or sports functions, traveling to their camp at Sebago Lake, visiting Disney World or cruising the Caribbean. He impacted many people in positive ways, as his friendly curiosity and genuine interest in people highlighted his bright and magnetic personality. He was always willing to do anything above and beyond to help others and make them smile, often playing tricks and making situational jokes, especially with his grandchildren. Although he'll be missed by friends and family, he assured them he lived a great and happy life and hoped they would continue to cherish the fine memories they've shared.
A small private service will be held for the immediate family at their residence.

Bob was very supportive of our family over the years. He will truly be missed. I could always count on Bob as a friend and consultant over the years. It was always a pleasure to chat with him about anything in business and life. He was clearly a family man and always talked so fondly about his wife and children. This is truly a loss for all of us. My condolences to all of his family.

Kit and I are shocked and profoundly saddened by Bobs untimely passing. He was a true gentleman, great friend and a legend in our little community on the shores of Sebago Lake.

I´ll miss our sitting around the campfire, enjoying an adult beverage, and discussing our shared military experiences, or addressing the current topics of the day.

Bob's sage insight into the world of investments served me very well...and for that, amongst other things, I´ll be forever grateful.

Kit and I wish to extend our love and support to Sue, and the entire McCrillis family. I´ll hold the memory of Bob in my heart forever.
