Roger Dale “Jake” Atwood 74 of Chillicothe died 6:47 pm on Monday, September 9, 2024, in Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe. He was born in Huntington Township on Monday, January 30, 1950, a son of the late Everett Atwood and the late Osccie D. (Colvin) Acord. On Monday, August 10, 1970, he married the former Marsha Lynn Wallin, who died Friday, July 9, 2021, a month shy of their 51st anniversary.
He is survived by three children, Tammy Sue (Jeffrey) Beougher of Grove City, Roger Dale Atwood, Jr. of Chillicothe, Jason Dewitt (Rhonda Lou) Atwood of Cincinnati, grandchildren, Heather Lynn, Joseph, Matthew, Chrissy, Rosanna, Katrina and Veronica aka Vern, three great grandchildren, Alex “Cool Cat”, Elizabeth and Mila Rose. He is also survived by sister Glenda (George) Manson of Amanda; brother Glen (Susanne) Acord, of Chillicothe; special friends, Nicky and kids, Cathy Lee and Charlie; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a son, James Everett Atwood and a brother, Ernie L. Atwood.
Roger was a retired tire repairman. He loved the outdoors, especially mowing the yard. He was also a fan of stock and sprint car racing, going to the track when able. When he was younger, he loved to shoot pool. In more recent years he enjoyed going to the Huntsmen Market visiting with the old-timers and flirting with the ladies.
A funeral service for Roger will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024, in the SMITH-MOORE-EBRIGHT FUNERAL HOME, Bainbridge with Pastor Dane Knapp officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest beside Marsha in the Twin Township Cemetery, Bourneville. Family and friends may visit with Roger’s family on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions in Roger’s memory can be made to the Adena Health Foundation Cancer Center 9 South Paint Street Chillicothe, OH 45601.
