Roger L. Beebe, age 84 of Corning, NY passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Elcor Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born on December 30, 1939 in Corning, NY, he was the son of the late Harold and Helen (Moore) Beebe. Roger served in the Army National Guard from 1960 to 1965. He married Beatrice J. Sears on June 30, 1962. Roger worked as a sheet metal worker for Corning, Inc., retiring in 2002 with 42 years of service.
At a young age, Roger developed a love of racing that started out by racing go-karts with his brother. That love grew as he got older and he, Beatrice and their daughters often attended stock car races at various tracks around the area. He became very actively involved in Watkins Glen International, becoming a member of the SCCA and served as a flagger for many years. He was one of the founding members of the North Corning Fire Department. Roger also had a love of singing and dancing. He was a skilled roller skater; and in his earlier years, he and Beatrice enjoyed square dancing and entertaining many with their polka dances. He was a member of the Painted Post Barbershop Chorus and the Three Rivers 4 Quartet. Roger's time working as a sheet metal worker allowed him to branch off into other fabrications becoming a talented wood carver. He made many toys for his grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as canes and knife handles. Deep sea fishing was another favorite pastime with his father-in-law, brothers-in-law and nephews. His family will remember him most for his 'gift of gab'. He was extremely talkative and loved to talk to anyone who entered a room - fabricating many stories over the years, convincing everyone they were true. In his later years, his greatest joy came from visiting and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Roger is survived by his wife, Beatrice J. Beebe of Corning, NY; daughters: Shelley L. Scott and Lisa R. Beierling; grandchildren: Chelsea J. (Bryan) Maynard, Michael C. (Megan) Iannarilli, Daniel T. Scott, and James P. Scott; great grandchildren: Izabelle G. Maynard, Blake C. Maynard, Leland Cook, Raphael M. Iannarilli, Clementine R. Iannarilli, Constance Scott, Rosalie Molnar, and James P. Scott Jr.; sister, Esther B. Hall of Horseheads, NY; sister-in-law, Marilyn Beebe of Savona, NY; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.
In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by his daughter, Tammy L. Stilson; siblings: L. Douglas Beebe, Carolyn Quagliana, Normalou Rowe, Edwin W. Beebe and Gerald Beebe.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney St. Corning.
