Russell Fred Arthur, affectionately known as "Johnny", passed away on June 6, 2025, at his residence. he was born to Russell Jeff Arthur and Nellie L. Furnier Arthur on March 8, 1940, in Beaver Creek, Ohio, he lived a life dedicated to his family, profession, and country.
The family moved to Orangeburg, Kentucky where he grew up. He graduated from the Orangeburg School.
Johnny served honorably in the U.S. Army for six years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. His commitment to service was a testament to his character and dedication, values that he carried throughout his life.
For an impressive 62 years, Johnny worked as a meat cutter and processor, a career marked by hard work and a deep understanding of his craft. His contributions in this field were greatly appreciated, and he was known for his skill and professionalism.
Beyond his work, Johnny had numerous hobbies and interests that painted a picture of a well-rounded individual. He found joy in fishing and hunting, activities that connected him with nature and provided him with cherished memories. Additionally, he enjoyed watching baseball and basketball, often sharing these moments with family and friends.
He was a member of the Goddard United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Leslie Arthur
He is survived by his wife Marjorie Rucker Arthur and his son, John Eric Arthur and grandson Ayden of Teays Valley, West Virginia. Two step-daughters, Karen Howard of Augusta, Kentucky and Bethany (Joshua) Swope of Brooksville, Kentucky. Three step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother and sisters; Judy (Ron) Dickson of Orangeburg, Ida Huddleston of Mason County, Kentucky, Roy (Shirley) Arthur of Huntington, West Virginia, Lana (Robert) Bare of Mason County, Carrie (Phillip) Smith of Owensville, Ohio and Joy (Ron) Moran of Beechburg, Kentucky. A host of nieces, nephews, family, friends and a sister-in-law Dianna Arthur.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Flemingsburg, Kentucky with Pastor Jim Doughton officiating. Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home will be 12:00 PM to until the service at 2:00 PM.
Burial with full military honors by the United States Army, W. N. Fant Post No. 5 and Franklin Sousley VFW Post No. 1834 will be in the Wallingford Cemetery.
Pall bearers will be Earl Dean Rucker, Timmy DeAtley, Josh Swope, Ron Erskin, Kenny Arnett and Brian Arnett.
He leaves behind a legacy filled with fond memories, unwavering dedication, and a love for life that will be remembered by all who knew him. As we honor his memory, we reflect on the impactful life he led, the relationships he cherished, and the warmth he brought to those around him. Johnny will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
