Ruth "Lou Ann" Giles Johnson
November 19, 1942 – February 27, 2025
Ruth "Lou Ann" Giles Johnson, 82, passed away on the morning of February 27, 2025 in Salt Lake City, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 19, 1942, in Heber, Utah, to Ray Giles and Therma Mae Ball. A proud graduate of Wasatch High School in 1961. She married the love of her life, Charles Richard "Dick" Johnson, on August 31, 1962, in Heber City, Utah.
Lou Ann was truly the greatest mother and nana-resilient, strong, courageous, and honest. She fiercely advocated for her children and as her family grew to include 13 grandchildren, she shared with them that deep family love and formed bonds with each of them.
She was known for her unwavering moral character, sharp wit, and endless energy, earning her the nickname "Energizer Bunny." A card shark and a joker, she could outplay and outlaugh anyone at the table.
Lou Ann worked hard to help support her family and took pride in a clean, organized home. She found joy in puzzles, water fights, and gardening - especially tending to her beloved roses and irises. Even as her health faltered, she continued to maintain her house and was known to mow her lawn with oxygen in tow.
A longtime resident of Wasatch County, she moved to Salt Lake City in 1981 but always held her hometown close to her heart. She cherished her faith, her time in the church and temple, and the color green.
Lou Ann is survived by her five children: Elizabeth "Gwen" (Greg) Webb, Richard "Blake" (Gaylene) Johnson, Susan Johnson, Heidi Johnson, and Dani (Josh) Loftin; 11 grandchildren: Natalie Johnson, Christopher (Andrea) Johnson, Kael Johnson, Richelle (Jon) Fawson, Andrew (Angela) Webb, Brandon (Christie) Webb, Darius Johnson, Dominick Johnson, Alexander Loftin, Sophie Finch, and Charlie Loftin; and nine great-grandchildren: Lennon, Skylar, and Ara Johnson, Louis and Anna Webb, James Quilter, and Ellie, Adler, and Gannon Fawson. She is also survived by her siblings George Giles, Kaye Swena, and Mary Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Therma, her brother Gary Giles, her beloved husband Dick Johnson, and her grandchildren Michael and Megan Webb.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Applegate Homecare, especially Nurse Becky, as well as Dr. Ryan, her cardiologist. A special thank you to Miss Kitty, her devoted rescue animal, who remained by her side until the very end.
Lou Ann's strength, humor, and love will forever be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Services will be held on Friday, March 7th at the Rosedale Ward (1148 W 500 N, Salt Lake City) with visitation at 10:00 and funeral services at 11:00, followed by interment at the Midway Cemetery (600 W 500 N, Midway) at 2:30.
