Ruth Ann Kalies, age 87 of Suring, passed away peacefully at Sun Valley II in Marinette on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. Ruth was born on October 19, 1937, in Hollandtown a farmer's daughter of the late Henry and Correne (Bowers) VanWychen. She grew up on the family farm in Hollandtown and graduated from Wrightstown High School. On May 3, 1956, Ruth married Herbert Kalies at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Wrightstown. Ruth worked at Kaukauna Memorial Hospital until her and Herb purchased Shady Acres Bar in Crooked Lake. They also owned and operated the "Little Store" in Crooked Lake. Ruth was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Suring.
Ruth is survived by her beloved husband, Herb; daughter, Cheryl (Jody) Ustianowski of Lublin; son, Tom Kalies of Green Bay; grandchildren, Mitch Grandaw of Suring, Morgan (Cody) Christensen of Green Bay, Kane Kalies and Channing Kalies of Green Bay; a brother, Ken (Mary) VanWychen of Suring; brothers-in law, Joseph (Grace) Kalies of Forestville, Curt (Nancy) Kalies of Greenleaf; sisters-in-law, Karen (Gary) Dille of Mount Vernon, IL, Mary Kalies of De Pere, and Mickey Kalies of Kaukauna. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret "Mugs" & Robert Duescher; brother, Dwayne "Cowboy" VanWychen; son-in-law, Mitch Grandaw; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Kalies, Ronald Kalies, and John Kalies; nephew, Jack Kalies.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Sun Valley II and Heartland Hospice for their compassion and care.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at www.gruetzmacherfuneralhome.com.
