Ruth Ann Stevens passed away on January 5 th, 2025 surrounded by her big and loving
family. She was born on May 4 th, 1944, in Anderson, Indiana to Vernon and Catherine
(Maxwell) McAtee. Ruth was an Anderson High School graduate of 1965. After high
school, Ruth went on to beauty school and had a successful career working alongside
her sisters Dorothy and Helen. She worked at Magic Mirror in Pendleton and Master's
Touch in Anderson, her sisters' business for nearly 20 years. She loved doing hair and
connecting with her customers.
Ruth married George Stevens Jr. on September 27 th, 1968. They were married for 44
years until George's passing in 2012. Their love brought their two wonderful daughters,
Julia and Jayme into the world. As much as Ruth loved being a mother, the greatest
delight of her life was being "Nana" to her two granddaughters Alexis and Austin and
"GiGi" to her great-grandson Oliver. Ruth loved taking long walks on the beach and
spending time with her chihuahua Abbigail. Ruth was known by her nieces and
nephews as "Silly Aunt Ruthie". She loved to crack jokes and have a good laugh. She
especially loved embarrassing them by asking, "Alright Dollface, you got a
boyfriend/girlfriend yet?" She was one of a kind and will be dearly missed by them all.
Ruth was survived by her daughters Julia Stevens (Charles) and Jayme Purkey
(Joseph), granddaughters Alexis Stevens (Cecil), and Austin Ballard (Brian), great-grandson
Oliver Lukas, sisters Dorothy Sanders, Helen White (Wayne), brother Steve McAtee
(Sharon) and brother-in-law James Welch.
Ruth is proceeded in death by her parents, husband George, sister Marilyn Welch,
brother & sister-in-law Tom McAtee and Nancy McAtee Shaw, and brother-in-law
Kenneth Sanders.
A celebration of life will be held on January 18 th, 2025 from 3 pm-5 pm at Parkview
Church of the Nazarene on 911 Rangeline Road, Anderson Indiana 46012. Nephew,
Jordan White will be officiating the service.
