Samuel Rudolph "Rudy" Pittman, 92, of Lottsburg, VA, went home to be with Lord on April 4, 2025.
Born on September 13, 1932, in Fleeton, VA, Rudy was the son of the late Samuel Daugherty Pittman and Lilian Saunders Pittman. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles Douglas Pittman, and his beloved grandson, Charles Samuel "Sam" Pittman.
Rudy's life was defined by his service, hard work, love hunting, the water, and his Lord. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954, and upon returning home, he began his career as a mechanic, working on the fishboats. He later left Northumberland to work as a meat cutter for various supermarkets in northern Virginia before returning to Northumberland later in life where he worked on the fishboats for Omega, and spent years as a waterman, running his own boat, the Genny Joy. His love for hunting, his many hunting dogs, and the water remained constant throughout his life. Rudy found true joy, whether he was hunting, fishing, or crabbing and his fondest memories were made in these simple pleasures.
Rudy is survived by his brother, Eugene Pittman (Debbie); his three children, Linda Harding (Gary), Garland Pittman, Shelby Brooks (Dean) and his beloved caregiver Rebecca Sprouse (Brian); grandchildren Wayne Harding (Gloria), David Pittman, Caitlyn Pittman, and Randy Brooks; great-grandchildren Morgan Baumstark (Luke), Ava Harding, Jaxson Pittman, and Carter Pittman; and his great-great-granddaughter, Eleanor Baumstark. He will also be missed by many extended family members and friends.
A graveside service will be held at Roseland Cemetery in Reedville, VA at 12 pm, Saturday, April 12th. The family will receive friends at Welch Funeral Home, 10300 Richmond Road Warsaw, VA 22572, from 10 am-11 am on Saturday April 12th. The family requests any donations be made to Callao Volunteer Rescue Squad or Callao Volunteer Fire Department in Rudy's memory.
Rudy's legacy will live on through his family, his love for hunting and the water, and the many lives he touched throughout his years.
