Sandra L. Hinton, 63 of Lafayette, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Rosewalk Village where she had resided for the past six years. She was born on March 14, 1962 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette to the late Rose Marie (Hague) Hinton and the late Laddie W. Hinton of Battle Ground. Sandy attended St. Boniface School for her elementary education and graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1980. During this time Sandy worked part-time at the Lafayette Journal & Courier, JCPenney and Smith Shoes. She was very fond of the Smith family. Following graduation, Sandy attended Purdue University for two years until she lost her sight due to Diabetes. She then attended the Indiana School for the Blind in Indianapolis and learned to read and write Braille. Later Sandy lost the function of her kidneys due to diabetes and began kidney dialysis continuing until she received a kidney transplant in 1994. After the passing of her mother in 1995, she lived independently with her beloved seeing-eye dog Tahoe for almost 20 years. During that time Sandy received a pancreas transplant in 2005 curing her diabetes. Sandy was a very strong, independent, determined young lady who persevered through all of the challenges that life placed before her.
Sandy was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church. She loved playing her guitar, being on her computer and listening to audio books. She also enjoyed going out to dinner with friends and family and especially loved to travel and shop.
Sandy was preceded in death by her mother Rose M. Hinton, her father Laddie W. Hinton and brother Jerry L. Hoaks. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Lester and Lillian (Waples) Hague, two special aunts, Dorothy Jackson and Ruth Neuman and uncle, Bill Hague.
She is survived by her sisters, Linda Walton (Mike) of Battle Ground, Carol Shields (Larry) and Janet Reynolds (Jerry) of Lafayette. Sandy is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Angie, Kyle, Joe, Bill, Michelle, Kristel, Alex and her cousin, Jenny German (Doug) along with their daughters, Ashley and Hannah and uncle, Jack Neuman.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mohammad Yacub and Alicia Turner NP of Transplant Nephrology at IU Hospital in Indianapolis for the excellent care they have provided to Sandy for the past 30+ years. We would also like to give a special thank you to the staff at Rosewalk Village as well as Select Hospice who took such good care of her the last several years.
Friends may call from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at 2:00 pm Monday, November 3, 2025 at Soller-Baker Funeral Homes, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, IN 47909. Burial will follow at Battle Ground Cemetery in Battle Ground.

I met Samdra through my job in Healthcare over 20 years ago. She and Tahoe always brightened my day. She was a very sweet and strong person. I will always remember her dearly.

Sandy and I went to school together first at Tippecanoe Junior High School and then going on to graduate together at Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1980.
Then years later we got connected again when I went to Victory Christian Center. She loved the Lord Jesus and that was special.
Sandy was a sweet person and was always polite. I wish I had gotten to know her better but I am thankful for the little bit of time that I was able to spend with her.
