RICHMOND, Ind. – Sandra L. Waterman, age 83, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Ambassador Healthcare.
Born March 4, 1942, in Richmond, Indiana, to George and Mary Lichtenfels Shellhorn, Sandy was a life-long resident of this area graduating from Centerville High School. She married George (Buddy) Waterman on November 24, 1962, and they were married for 38 years. She stayed home to raise her children, then went back to school, graduating from Ivy Tech Community College with a degree in Childhood Development. Sandy worked in daycare and taught preschool until she retired. She watched her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they all called her "Owl."
Left to cherish her memory are her nine children; stepson Timothy Waterman, Kris (David) McEntire, John Waterman, Steven Waterman, Kathy (Gary) Brouse, Karen (Ed) Waterman-Overgaard, Melissa Waterman, Christopher (Jason Long) Waterman, and William Waterman; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, siblings, Diane Powell and John (Judy) Shellhorn; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George, brother-in-law, Orville Powell; and daughter-in-law, Tyrell Waterman.
Visitation for Sandra L. Waterman will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Adam Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
