Steven Lawrence Milligan, MD, a long-time resident of Pueblo CO, passed away on October 4, 2025 after a long illness. He was 67 years old.
Steven was born in Rochester, NY on March 24, 1958 to Donald and Eleanor Milligan, who predeceased him. He graduated from St. Bonaventure University with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and received his medical education at St. Louis University. There he met his future wife, Lynn Strange. He graduated in 1984 and married Lynn that same year in Lakewood, CO. He did his residency in Family Medicine in Clarksburg, WV.
Steve and Lynn moved to Pueblo and practiced full spectrum family medicine including OB for 27 years. He ended his career developing a pilot program to provide quality, patient-centered care, with adequate support for both physicians and patients in the program. He proved that it was financially possible to reimburse physicians for quality care. He retired in 2021, moving to Golden, CO.
With their well-deserved free time, Steve and Lynn traveled the country visiting multiple National Parks in their camper van, listening to all the Jack Reacher books on audio. They traveled the world visiting many foreign countries and expanding their knowledge of cultures and customs. Steve, as a photographer, had two photographs accepted by the NPS for an exhibit on homesteading in Beatrice, NE in 2024. Samples of his work can be viewed at https://narrowwindowphotography.com/ He enjoyed performing random acts of kindness wherever he went.
Steve is survived by his wife Lynn, children Caitlin Milligan (Nathan Jewell), Dr. Ian Milligan (Sydney Gettel), and Colin Milligan, who had all had moved closer in the years preceding his illness. He is also survived by his brother Clifford Milligan of Irondequoit, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Steve's Fight For a Cure on https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-steves-fight-for-a-cure (all donations will be forwarded to Stand Up to Cancer) or to the Foodbank of the Rockies. Also, in his memory, please practice random acts of kindness.
