Summer-Jean Rae Bray

Portsmouth - Summer-Jean Rae Bray, born on June 2, 1996, in Portsmouth, Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025, in her hometown of Portsmouth, at the age of 29.
Summer dedicated her life to her family and community as a devoted stay-at-home mom and homemaker. Her heart was filled with an immense love for her two precious daughters, Makenzie and Piper, who were the light of her life. She will be remembered for her sweet, kind nature that could light up any room, her generosity, and her unwavering willingness to help those in need. Summer never met a stranger; she embraced everyone with warmth and kindness.
She enriched the lives of many through her volunteer work, coaching a special needs kids' softball team, assisting the homeless, and volunteering at local churches. Her passion for dance was evident as she expressed herself through tap, ballet, and lyrical dance for over six years. Summer was also a proud member of the Martina Natoli Foundation.
Summer pursued her education at Tidewater Community College in Portsmouth, where she completed two years focusing on general education and prerequisites for child development. Her love for children and her desire to make a difference in their lives was a testament to her caring and nurturing spirit.
She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Raymond and Peggy, her paternal grandfather, Walter, and her beloved aunt, Robyn.
Summer leaves behind a loving family, including her cherished daughters, Makenzie and Piper; her devoted parents, Rae Ellyn and Walter (Kathie); her beloved sister, Bailey; her paternal grandmother, Janice; her aunts, Pam, Penny, Rebecca, Rae, Katelyn, and Theresa; her uncles, Eric and John "Ronnie"; her stepsisters, Tawana and Bernice; as well as numerous cousins and dear friends. All who knew Summer will profoundly miss her presence.

A celebration of Summer's life will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at noon at Oakland United Christian Church, located at 5641 Godwin Blvd, Suffolk, VA 23434.
