It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Timothy (Tim) Sean McGee, 77 years old, of Troy, MI. He bravely battled Parkinson's and Pulmonary Fibrosis, illnesses connected to Agent Orange exposure during his service in Vietnam.
Tim was born on December 13th, 1947, in Council Bluffs, IA, in the back of a taxi cab, to Donald Jack McGee and Dorothy Patricia McGee (nee Duckworth). He grew up in Birmingham, MI, attending Holy Name Catholic School and graduating from the University of Detroit Jesuit High School in 1966. In 1990, he earned a Bachelor's degree from Wayne State University. He joined the Marines in 1966 and went on to serve in Vietnam as a Chaplain's assistant. He reenlisted, serving in North Carolina until his honorable discharge in 1974 with the rank of Sergeant. He spent 30 years in the automotive industry as a salesman and vice president of sales at the Budd Company and other firms before retiring for the second time. Following this, he worked as a program coordinator at the Troy Historical Museum for eight years. Later, he pursued his passion as a theater director and theater manager at Andover High School for another eight years, before he finally decided to rest (or so we thought). He continued onward after retirement with many more community and veteran volunteer organizations, until his passing.
Tim will be remembered for his loyalty, honesty, hard-working, generosity, kindness, and as a faithful Catholic, and for his love of theater, music, golf, bowling, traveling, and community service. Family and his friends were very important to him. He was proud and surprised as he accepted the 2023-2024 Department of Michigan Marine of the Year award for his leadership, bravery, and support of fellow Marines. He touched countless lives through his dedication to community service. Tim held leadership roles in the Department of Michigan Marine Corps League, including past Commandant of CPL S. L. Moore Detachment 159 and president of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. He also contributed to the Birmingham Village Players (as past president, director, and actor), St. Dunstan's Theater (director and actor), Birmingham Senior Men's Club (past president and foundation president), and the Stoneycroft Hills Club (Treasurer). Additionally, he was previously a council member at St. Thomas More Church, a Boy Scouts troop leader, and a chaplain for the Knights of Columbus. He also enjoyed singing in the Langsford Men's Chorus and volunteer teaching Vietnam history at the University of Detroit High School.
Tim is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 53-years Julie Ann McGee (nee Martin); his children, Sean McGee (Rachelle & Marita) and Colleen Fanelli (Paul); and cherished grandchildren, Tristan McGee, Tyler McGee, Caitlyn Fanelli, Quinn Fanelli, and Teagan McGee. He is also survived by his siblings, Molly Allen (Rick), Katy Mattis, and Dan McGee. He was preceded in death by Michael McGee (brother), Donald McGee (father), Matthew McGee (brother), Patricia McGee (mother), and Patrick McGee (brother).
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29th, at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 North Crooks Road, Clawson, MI (between 14 and 15 Mile Roads), from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM (family visitation at 3:00 PM). A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 30th, at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas More Church, 4580 North Adams Road, Troy, MI. Friends may visit the church beginning at 10:30 AM. He will be buried at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, the Birmingham Senior Men's Club Foundation, or the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

It was our privilege to sail from Vancouver to Sydney Australia with Tim and Julie. They were our table mates then for 27 days and again recently in the Bahamas. We haven´t known Tim a long time but we were proud to call him a friend. Rest in peace Tim.
Our sympathy to Julie and family.
