Travis P. Goggans passed away peacefully in his home with companion Linda Johnson and daughter Paula Fernandez by his side on January 17, 2025, to be with our Lord in his tender care. He was born on November 11, 1929, in Littlefield, Texas to William C. Goggans and Cora E. Hukill. His family moved to Pauls Valley, Oklahoma when Travis was 7 years old. He graduated from Pauls Valley High School in 1947. Travis served in the United States Air Force for 4 years and then moved to Norman, Oklahoma in 1954.
He earned 3 degrees from the University of Oklahoma. He became a CPA in 1958 and earned his Doctor of Philosophy in 1963. He was a Professor of Accounting at the University of Oklahoma for 30 years. During his employment at OU, Travis was engaged in a part-time Accounting and Consultation practice. Throughout his academic career, Travis was a prolific writer and the recipient of numerous teaching awards. In the words of the then Director of the School of Accounting, "Travis has the enviable distinction of announcing his retirement at the time when his professional performance is at its peak". His professional career included serving as an independent auditor for the then Norman Municipal Hospital, serving as consultant to the Oklahoma Nursing Home Association and serving as expert witness in numerous court cases. Travis has been associated with the Cecil Woods family since 1955. Cecil Woods was a pioneer real estate entrepreneur in Norman. He hired Travis as his accountant for his real estate as well as other entrepreneurial activities. Travis continued to be a part of the Woods family throughout four generations. He served as Eminent Commander of Norman York Rite Lodge and Worthy Grand Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star for the State of Oklahoma. His main hobbies were restoring antique automobiles, primarily pickups, spending time at Questhaven at Lake Texoma and raising pigeons.
Travis is survived by his daughter Paula Sue Fernandez. His three grandchildren, William P. Fernandez and wife Jeri Kaye, Travis Fernandez, Alana Barney and husband Bobby. A great granddaughter to Mr. Goggans, Kamdynn Barney. As well as nieces, nephews and members of the Cecil Woods family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Carey and Cora Elizabeth Goggans. Two wives, Barbara Spring Goggans and Ann Tew Goggans. His brother William Darwin Goggans and sister, Joy Fern Goggans Alexander.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Travis P. Goggans Endowed Scholarship Fund, 0042760 at the University of Oklahoma Foundation, 100 W. Timberdell, Norman, Ok 73019.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Pastor Andy Harrison. A private interment will be at Mt.
