Troy Lee Quinn Jr., known affectionately to friends and family as Troy, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on April 27, 2025, in
San Antonio, Texas. Born on August 21, 1945, in Jackson, Mississippi, Troy was a man of great honor and kindness whose 79 years of life were marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his community.
After graduating from Jim Hill High School in 1963, Troy enlisted in the United States Air Force, setting a foundation for a life of service and learning. His commitment to his nation was exemplified by an illustrious 27-year career in the Air Force, from which he retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. As a Vietnam War veteran, he earned the respect and admiration of his peers for his unwavering integrity and wisdom. His devotion to service and learning continued post-retirement when he earned his Bachelor's degree from Southwest Texas University while embarking on a second career working for the VA, where he dedicated another 20 years before retiring a second time.
Troy's life was one of active engagement and joy. He was a familiar face at the gym, where he loved playing racquetball when he could and maintaining his health. His enthusiasm for sports was not just as a spectator; he found great pleasure in the camaraderie and competition. He always looked forward to meeting up with his R.O.M.E.O (Retired Old Military Eating Out) group to reminisce and eat. Troy also found solace and satisfaction in the quietude of working in his yard, a testament to his appreciation for nature and the outdoors.
Family was the cornerstone of Troy's life. He leaves behind his beloved spouse, Vianna J. Quinn, with whom he shared countless cherished moments after being together for over 50 years. His legacy of love and strength lives on through his son, Tony G. Quinn; his daughter, Tracie C. Quinn; his grandsons and namesake, Justin Troy Ziliox, DeShaun M. Cox, Isaiah D. McDaniel; granddaughter, Makaela R. McDaniel; his sister Velma L. Hodges (Herman); his brother, Charles Quinn Muhammad, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Troy was predeceased by his parents, Troy Lee Quinn Sr. and Ethel Mae Finley Quinn, and siblings Ethel Marie Veal, Doris Jean Quinn and Tommy Lee Quinn, the love they instilled in him remained a guiding light throughout his life.
Those who knew Troy will remember him as the epitome of selflessness. His kind spirit and wise counsel were gifts he freely gave to all around him.
