Valerie Jane Potter, 88, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on April 19, 1937, in Ithaca, NY, Valerie was the daughter of the late Wesley and Alice "Peggy" (Hyland) Eva. She was a proud graduate of the Interlaken Central School District and later earned an Associate of Science degree from Corning Community College.
Valerie married Henry Potter on July 21, 1956; he preceded her in death in 1994. She went on to work as a clerk for the Steuben County Office for the Aging, where she dedicated a decade of compassionate service before retiring.
A woman of many talents and interests, Valerie found great joy in creative pursuits. She was an accomplished artist who loved painting, ceramics, and wood carving. She also expressed her creativity through quilting, knitting, crocheting, and cross-stitch. Valerie treasured time spent outdoors, especially gardening and relaxing on the swing by the lake. More than anything, she cherished family gatherings and the time spent with those she loved most.
Valerie's warmth, creativity, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Valerie is survived by her children: James (Terry) Potter of Painted Post, NY, Diane (Bill) Potter-Earl of Corning, NY; grandchildren: Anlyn (Chris) Baughan, Douglas (Catherine) Webb, Chad Woodhouse, Gregory (Angel) Potter, Stacy (Alex) Coffey, Jake Potter and Ashley Potter; great grandchildren: Declan, Dannon, Nolan, Madeline, Dalton, Riley, Lily, Maddox, Alani, Jaxon, Tucker and Everett; sister, Sharon (Mark) Ricci; daughter-in-law, Kimber Potter of Corning, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Valerie was predeceased by her son, Thomas Potter; and daughter, Barbara Woodhouse.
