Walter P. Edmonds of New Providence, NJ, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the age of 83.
Walter was born in Somerville, NJ, the son of the late Margaret (nee Lundrigan) and Walter M. Edmonds. He was raised in South Bound Brook, NJ, and had lived in New Providence since 1975.
Walter was a proud Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1959-62. He received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Rutgers University and a master's degree in safety and environmental health from NJIT.
Walter was employed as a site manager for SiteSafety in New York City for over fifteen years before retiring five years ago.
He was very active in his community, serving as a longtime member of the Community Service Association of New Providence and a 15-year member of the New Providence Planning Board. He was active with youth sports and coached all his children's sporting teams; though, he was always happiest when the games ended in a tie, and often opted to give kids six or more strikes if they were hitting-challenged. Walter had a paper route for the Star Ledger that he managed for 10 years. He was also a youth group leader at both Presbyterian Church at New Providence and First Baptist Church of Union.
Walter was pre-deceased by his beloved wife Caroline Edmonds (nee Crandell), his son Bret Edmonds, and his brother Jim Edmonds. He is survived by his loving children and their families, Bryce Edmonds and his partner Regina Clemente, Kyle Edmonds and his wife Christine, and Megan C. Edmonds and her husband Michael Laauwe; his cherished grandchildren, Sydney and Ryan Edmonds and Dylan W. Patrey; and his dear sister Peggy Schaeffer and her husband Chuck.
The visitation will be held at Millington Baptist Church, 520 King George Rd. in Basking Ridge, NJ, on Saturday, April 22nd, from 10-11 AM, followed by the funeral service to begin at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 99 Mt. Airy Rd., Basking Ridge.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to Community Service Association New Providence (www.csanewprovidence.org) or Millington Baptist Church (www.millingtonbaptist.org).

In the early 1980's while still in architecture school, I was appointed to the Planning Board as an alternate member.
Walter was already a member and I would always look up to him as a mentor. He was always kind enough to show me the ropes.

Walter made me feel special always, from childhood on. I will miss him more than I can make people understand. Go with God, big brother .

I had been friends with Caroline since high school and met Walter our Senior year. We always reconnected at our class reunions and kept in touch at Christmas. I last talked to Walter in December. He was such a nice, caring man and missed Caroline so. We send our condolences, thoughts and love to all of Walter's family.
