William Gentry Jr. was born on June 9, 1940, in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, and he passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family. His remarkable life spanned over eight decades, during which he made an indelible mark on the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
William's career began as a truck driver, a role he embraced for 18 years. His dedication to hard work transitioned when he joyfully joined his son at Gentry Flooring, where they collaborated for over 30 years. This partnership not only exemplified his strong work ethic but also reflected the bond he shared with his son.
With a personality described as having a "Heart of Gold," William was known for his willingness to help anyone and his ability to engage with strangers, turning them into friends. He cherished the role of being a grandfather, taking immense pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He often shared stories and laughter, creating irreplaceable memories with them.
In addition to his profound love for family, William enjoyed a variety of hobbies that enriched his life. He was passionate about fishing and hunting, found joy in storytelling, enjoyed playing poker, and had an affinity for old cars. William often spent time reminiscing about his experiences, filling the air with warmth and laughter.
William is survived by his daughters, Rebecca (Steve) Kritsch and Cynthia Fields, along with daughter-in-law Kelley Gentry. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Nick (Kris) Codalata, Crystal (John) Haley, Michael (Steph) Codalata, Shane (Sam) Gentry, Briana (Josh) Riddle, and Bobby (JaNessa) Fields, as well as many great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind siblings Liz, Daisy, Kenny, Wayne, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Vivian (Garrison) Gentry, on April 30, 2004; his son James Gentry; his daughter Laura Kay Gentry; grandson William Zachary Gentry; and several siblings.
A visitation will be held on January 21, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a funeral service starting at 4:00 PM, both taking place at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 925 E Hanna Ave, Indianapolis, IN, 46227.
William Gentry Jr. was a remarkable man whose memory will be cherished by his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering support that will continue to resonate in the hearts of many.
