William (Bill) Wayne Pierce, disciple of Jesus, went home to the Lord on April 20, 2023, surrounded by his beloved family in Greenwood, IN.

Bill was born to Lester and Ruth Pierce in Bedford, IN on February 2, 1942. He spent his younger years growing up with his brother, Don, in Mitchell, IN. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1960 and soon after attended Cincinnati Bible Seminary. He then went to University of Cincinnati and later graduated Magna Cum Laude, from Milligan College, before earning his Masters in Social Work from Indiana University.

Bill began his career at Lutheran Child and Family Services where he worked for 42 years as a social worker. During his time at Lutheran Child and Family Services, he met Patty Jefferis, who would become Patty Pierce on October 26, 1974.

They loved adventuring together to their favorite destination, Saugatuck, Michigan, and; made many memories each summer, enjoying the beaches there. At home, they planned and planted together every Spring, producing a lovely landscape while taking in the beauty of God’s creation. Bill and Patty enjoyed loving the Lord side by side for 48 years.

Bill never stopped telling his family about the Lord, using every opportunity to produce a conversation for the sake of the gospel. He was a constant, steadfast presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren. Bill took a genuine interest in the joys of his family. If he attended a practice or performance, he was sure to create a teachable moment for the glory of the Lord. Each year at Christmas Bill enjoyed constructing an elaborate nativity, using this as a visual representation to talk with the children about the birth of the Savior. The red Picture Bible was another favorite that Bill used to teach the kids to love Jesus. His everlasting prayer was to see them all know their Savior.

Bill was the kind of man who thrived in one-on-one honest, vulnerable conversations more than in a large room with many people. He was loving and direct, kind and stubborn -- a mixture that could only have been authored by the Lord. He was generous with his time, and spent most of his retired days at local coffee shops, counseling people in need and meeting with people eager to glean wisdom from his lifelong study of God’s Word. His silence in large groups often meant he was in prayer. He constantly lifted up the name of Jesus.

Bill’s heart for the global persecuted church was boundless. He passionately led the Missions Committee at his local church and was an ardent supporter of The Voice of the Martyrs. One could always count on Bill to be unabashedly honest – rooted in his strong biblical convictions.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Jefferis) Pierce; his sons Samuel (Melissa) Pierce and Lucas (Shelley) Pierce; and his grandchildren Noah, Elliot, Rhyan, Lacey, Oscar and Lola.

In his last years, Bill made no secret of his desire to finish his life well and go home to heaven to his heavenly Father. He loved his family and enjoyed his time here with us, but had set his mind on his Lord and Savior. While we mourn his loss and will miss being able to see and talk with him, we know Bill is at home with Jesus, the author and perfector of his faith.

Services will be held at a local church in Indianapolis, IN on May 6, 2023.

Bill, was the only person besides Jesus to mentor me. I was friends with Sam before I spent anytime at all with Bill. Bill used to cringe when I hugged him, until ten years ago when he told me he had finally met Jesus. He then became a great hugger lol. Two weeks before he went to be with the lord, I sent him these verses from Isaiah.
And nations shall come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your rising..... because he has made you beautiful.

The sun shall be no more your light by day, nor for brightness shall the moon give you light;
but the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory.
His answer was ;
Cannot wait until the Lord brings that day.
Glory to God who is mighty to save.
