Zidan Raab

Zidan Raab, 16, of Glenview, Illinois, passed away May 8, 2023 after bravely facing a prolonged battle with a mood disorder.
He was son to Lyazid Raab and Meredith Lee Raab (née Wambsgans), brother to Syphax Raab, grandson of Lounas Raab and Ouerdia Hammache of Rouen, France and Donald Wambsgans and Victoria Kolb of Hendersonville, North Carolina, nephew of Hachemi Raab (Hakima Gueddouri), Hacen Raab (Kahina Saidoune), Said Raab (Saliha Sini), Fazia Raab (Hadi Chellah), Sadia Raab (Samir Dib), Saloua Raab (Sofiane Messaoudene), and Colin Wambsgans (Dorothy Fortenberry) and loving cousin to many.
Zidan was born on August 29, 2006 in Boston, Massachusetts. He lived in Paris, France with his family for a year in 2009, and then moved to Chicago in 2010, settling in Glenview in 2015. He was a junior at Glenbrook South High School, where he was a member of the water polo and swim teams, and a passionate filmmaker with GBS's ATV program and recent Crystal Pillar winner from NATAS Chicago/Midwest Chapter's High School Production Awards. He worked as a lifeguard for Glenview Park District and was previously a swim instructor at Chicago Swim School. As a member of Swift Aquatics, he had three top 10 finishes at the Illinois State Age Group Long Course Championships in 2019.
Zidan was a kind-hearted, thoughtful person, who brightened the lives of his family and friends. Fiercely loyal and reliable, Zidan was always up for an adventure. He loved spending time in nature, trying new restaurants, and the cinema, especially watching movies at the Music Box theater in Chicago. A brilliant conversationalist, he was able to voice his opinions but was also open to hear the other side of any issue. He was a creative problem solver and had a wonderfully clever sense of humor. He radiated so much positive energy into the world during his short time with us, and we are grateful for every moment that we were able to spend with him. He was loved by many and will be missed.
A Visitation for Zidan Raab will be held Monday, May 15, 2023 from 3 to 8 pm at N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home, 1240 Waukegan Road, Glenview. Service and interment will be private.
