Donald Edwin Ullrich died on October 2, 2016 at the age of 86, six months after the passing of his beloved wife Marilyn. Don was born in the Youngstown area of New York on January 27, 1930 to Charles and Elsie Ullrich. Don and his siblings Doris, Harriet, and Charles were raised in the picturesque village of Youngstown, a farming community bordering the Niagara River. Don graduated from Cornell University in 1951 and received his doctorate in Entomology. He married Terri Ralph in 1954 and joined the Army in 1955. They had three sons, Graham, Tupper and Carter. Don initially worked for Shell Oil Company and later became the first president at Pecten Chemicals in Houston, TX. In 1982 he reunited with and married Marilyn G Hogarth, a long-lost friend from his homeplace of Youngstown. Don and Marilyn enjoyed traveling the globe and spending time with their family and friends in Houston, TX, Crested Butte, CO, and the Central Florida area. Don believed in paying forward his good fortune, and in 1989 created the Pecten Chemical Scholarship in International Studies at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX. Most recently Don resided in Longwood, FL, organizing weekly bridge games with all his friends. Don is survived by his sons Graham, Tupper, and Carter, and Marilyn's children Gregory, Kathy, and David, his daughters-in-law, Sue and Donna, his ex-daughter-in-law Betsy, his son-in-law Dean, and their grandchildren, Easton, Jessica, Penelope, Cameron, Lauren, and Reed. The family had a private service in Houston and respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be given to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation. Don's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and other dedicated professionals who helped to care for him and respect his final wishes.

I had the pleasure of working for Don in Shell's Pecten Chemicals when he announced his intention to "pay back" by starting the Pecten Chemicals Scholarship in International Studies at St. Thomas University. It was also my pleasure to help him reach full endoument by managing its annual fund raising golf outing in Houston when he and Marilyn moved to Florida. Don was inspirational and a pleasure to know. My wife Sylvia and I will miss him and Marilyn.

I was Don's secretary when he was president of Pecten Chemicals. He was a genuinely nice man. We had a fantastic working relationship. We could always hear him walking down the hallways at a fast pace with a jingling sound emanating from his pockets.
My condolences to the family.

To the Ulrich family I extend my deepest sympathy for your loss. Don was a true business man. It was a pleasure working for him in Pecten Chemicals. He was well respected within the Shell Community.
He was a humanitarian. He was instrumental in doing so much for the University of St Thomas. He saw to it that these students were afforded an opportunity they might otherwise not have had.
Keeping Don and your family in my prayers
