Leonard Boucher Obituary

.

Leonard "Lenny" Lawrence Boucher (67) was born December 8th, 1948 to Edgar and Alice (Hebert) Boucher in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He received the sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He grew up in the Fairmount neighborhood of Woonsocket.

In 1968, Leonard was drafted to the United States Army during wartime. After basic training in Georgia, he was stationed in El Paso, Texas and Vilseck of Bavaria, Germany. Leonard was a Private First Class Vehicle Driver with the Combined Arms School of the 7th Army Training Center. He received the National Defense Service Medal and achieved Expert M16 qualification. He was honorably discharged in 1970.

On June 22, 1973, Leonard was united in marriage to Claudette Mercure at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. To their marriage, two daughters were born; Amy(Boucher) Haugen and Heidi (Boucher) Roberts. In 1976, Leonard became ill and was later diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. This terrible diagnosis led to him becoming a member of the Disable Veterans of America. Leonard and Claudette moved to a country house in Chepachet, Rhode Island in 1978, where their children spent their childhood. In 1988, Leonard, along with his family, moved to Kingwood, Texas. Leonard enjoyed working on his car, most notably his 1972 Chevy Nova. He had a musical ear that could pick up any tune and play it out on the guitar or piano. He enjoyed racing, boxing and spending time with his growing family.

Leonard was a simple man with a kind and compassionate heart and saw the good in most everything. He was a loyal husband, loving father and grandfather and got along with everyone he met. On January 22, 2016, Leonard completed his five year battle with stage four colon cancer and was called to heaven by the Lord. He will be terribly missed by those who are left behind. Leonard is survived by his wife of 42 years, Claudette (Mercure) Boucher of Kingwood, Texas; daughter Amy and husband Bradley Haugen of Willmar, Minnesota along with grandchildren Andrew, Elizabeth, Juliette, and Ryan; daughter Heidi and her husband David Ross Roberts of San Jacinto County, Texas, with Grandchild Lewis Ross Roberts; sister Louise (Boucher) Barbish and her husband Thomas of Coventry, Rhode Island: brother William and his wife Nancy of Woonsocket, Rhode Island; sister-in-law Simone (Mercure) Salesses of Ocala, Florida; brother-in-law Robert Mercure and his wife Wini of Springfield, Massachusetts; many nieces and nephews.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Alice (Hebert) Boucher; sister-in-law Susan (Mercure) McDonald; sister-in-law Jeanine Mercure; brother-in-law, John Salesses; sister-in-law, Patricia Mercure.

His family would like to celebrate the life of Leonard Boucher and would ask that in lieu of gifts or flowers that a donation be made in Leonard's honor to the Disabled American Veterans, www.DAV.org.

Psalm 27:4-5 "One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.

1 Peter 1:3-9 "Praise be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in Heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire - may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls."

Visitation was 6-8 pm Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Darst Funeral Home with a rosary service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial was 10 a.m., Thursday, January 28, 2016 at St. Martha Catholic Church followed by a reception in the Gardens of Darst Funeral Home.
