Deborah Lucas

Deborah (Cullina) Lucas, first born of Michael J Cullina Jr and Veronica (Berthiaume) Cullina left to be among the angels on Tuesday morning, June 27, 2023. Debbie was born in Hartford, CT and lived in the South End for 37 years before making Vernon, CT her home. She attended St. Augustine and Bulkeley High School.
As a single mom raising her two daughters she worked for many companies through the years. Her last job and most rewarding was working as a school bus driver for the Town of Vernon for 19 years. Debbie enjoyed the daily interaction with the children, especially those with special needs. On January 17, 2017, after 45 years Debbie finally accomplished giving up smoking and was very proud of this achievement.
Debbie had an infectious and silly sense of humor and enjoyed making her friends and family laugh. She loved her vacations to NC to visit her grandsons and even made a round trip to OK where she did all the driving at school bus speed! Debbie was all about creating family traditions and made many with her grandson Brendan. Most of all Debbie cherished her daughters and her grandchildren and always put their needs above her own.
Debbie leaves her daughters, Trina Gould, and Carrie Lucas, her four grandchildren, Richard Kennan, Christian Kennan, Matthew Cullina Cotto, Brendan Margelony and great grandchildren, Aaliyah Kennan and most recently Jason Kennan born June 14, 2023. Also, nieces Jena D'Amico and Megan Penry, and nephew Eric Cullina. She also leaves her sister Donna Cullina, sister-in-law Patricia Cullina and cousin Bert Johanson. Debbie was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Veronica, her brother Michael J Cullina lll, and her grandson Austin Kennan. Affectionally known as Mamie, Mammie the G, and the Cat Lady she also leaves behind her beloved cats, Tootsie, Patches and Fatty.
Debbie's family would also like to thank the Visiting Nurses of Vernon for all the comfort and care they provided Debbie and the support and kind words given to her family during a difficult time.
A Celebration of Life is planned for August at a day and time to be determined.
