Dr. Réal Gérard Boivin, 79, of Manchester, passed away on November 4, 2023, at the Community Hospice House, Merrimack.
Born in Manchester on May 19, 1944, he was the son of the late Gérard and Parmélie (Lessard) Boivin.
Réal attended St. Theresa Elementary School and La Salette Seminary for his first three years of high school and graduated from Bishop Bradley High School in 1962. He earned a Bachelors of Arts degree at Saint Anselm College in 1969, a Master’s Degree in administration at UNH in 1974, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies at Northeastern University in 1974, and a Doctor of Education degree in 1981 from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Réal taught French at Newmarket High School (1966-1970) and at Manchester Memorial High School (1970-1985) until assuming the position of Assistant Principal (1985-1998).
Dr. Boivin began his musical education with piano lessons at age of six. He subsequently studied with teachers Doris Desruisseaux, Harland Bradford and Dr. Harry Wittemore. During the 1960’s and 1970’s he was organist at St. Patrick Church and St. Pius X Church. After jis retirement from education, Réal acquired the Griffin Watch Co., a business selling vintage watch parts nationally to watchmakers, which he operated for a period of 15 years.
Réal is survived by his sister Constance and his brother Robert; and by many cousins.
SERVICES: A visitation will take place from 9:30 am to 10:00 am, with a funeral Mass being celebrated at 10:00am on Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Elm St., Manchester, NH 03103.
