Amerigo John "Sonny" Yacavoni Jr., 84, passed away on December 24, 2024, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, VT. Amerigo was born on November 20, 1940, to Amerigo "Rico" Yacavoni Sr. and Beulah (Preston) Yacavoni, in Northfield, VT. He attended elementary school at the one room Holten School on Union Brook Rd in Northfield, VT. He graduated from Northfield High School in 1960 and then attended Norwich University, graduating in 1964 with a B.S. in Business Administration. He returned to Norwich in the fall of 64 to receive his teaching certificate.
He was hired to the Alburg School District for the 1965-1966 school year. In the summer of 1966, he took part-time employment with the State of Vermont Public Records and Central Services which later turned to a full time position. After 37 years, he retired as Director of the State of Vermont Public Records and General Services Complex in Middlesex, VT in 2002. He was awarded Manager of The Year Award in 1985 by former Governor Howard Dean.
He married Sandra Freeman on July 11, 1964. Their only child, John, was born in 1966. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and hunting, gardening and maintaining his property. He also thoroughly enjoyed the title of "Grampie", to his granddaughters Molly and Mary.
Amerigo is predeceased by both parents and older sister Philomanie "Ticky" Jewett of Southington, CT. Survivors include Sandra, his wife of 60 years, his son John and his wife Kathy, and their daughters Molly and Mary, of Northfield, VT. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Tucker of Northfield Falls, VT, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are in the care of Kingston Funeral Home. A mass will be held at Saint John the Evangelist Church in Northfield, VT on Friday, January 3rd at 11:30am.
