Betty Jean Timperman, 91, of Louisville, returned to her Heavenly Father on June 8, 2023.
A graduate of Presentation Academy, she met her husband Ray in the fall of 1950. The two were married on May 26, 1951 and had five children: Mike, Janet, Mary Ann, Susan, and Paul.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her faith in God and her love for her family were the driving forces throughout her life. She developed a love for the Blessed Mother at an early age and spent most of her life in service to her family, her church, and helping others in need.
In the early years of her marriage, Betty hosted the parish priests for weekly dinners, cleaned the rectory, and went grocery shopping and ran errands for the nuns. In time, her priorities shifted to meet the demands of raising five children. She was our biggest advocate and supporter, chauffeur, and cheerleader at countless ball games.
As her children grew older, Betty found more time for herself, enjoying church league volleyball, bunco nights with her friends, and Friday evening square dancing with her husband. She worked outside the home in various accounting roles at Family Health Center, U.S. Ecology, and Prescotech.
She rediscovered her passion for service, volunteering as a Eucharistic minister to the sick and homebound, supporting local Catholic organizations, and serving on various church committees. She participated in Eucharist adoration on Saturday mornings, laundered and ironed liturgical linens for the Church, and regularly prayed the rosary.
Most of all, Betty loved her family and looked forward to spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed holidays, birthdays, and other special events and the precious time with family that accompanied them. She followed a daily prayer schedule with one day per week allotted to each of her children and their respective families.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Raymond Timperman, her parents, Paul Downard and Hallie Stokes, brother, Robert Downard, and sisters, Joyce Bickel and Dolores Huber.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Michael Timperman (Sharon), Janet Sheehan (Timothy), Mary Ann Ott, Susan Eschenbach (Jeffrey) and Paul Timperman; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Arlene Downard.
Special thanks to the staff at Forest Springs and Baptist Hospital East for their loving care in recent weeks, and to StoryPoint staff and residents where she happily resided for the last several years.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 17, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 7813 Shelbyville Road with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm on Friday, June 16, at Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road.
For expressions of sympathy, please contact your local Catholic Church and have a Mass offered for Betty, or make a contribution in her memory to your favorite charity.
