BOHDAN PASICHNY of Hamilton, New Jersey, passed away Saturday, June 28th, 2025. To know Bo was to know generosity - not just in spirit, but in deed. Whether quietly offering support to those in need or championing humanitarian efforts for Ukraine, his guiding principle was simple and unwavering: "Don't be skimpy."
Born in 1946 in Aschaffenburg, Germany, Bohdan's life began in the shadows of war, in a Displaced Persons camp where his parents, John and Anna Pasichny, met after fleeing western Ukraine amid WWII. The family grew with the birth of his sister, Maria, two years later. And after immigrating to the United States in 1951 and planting their roots in New York City, the Pasichny family became complete with the birth of Bo's brother, Myron, a year later.
A mischievous and spirited man throughout his life, Bohdan served as lead altar boy at St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Church, attended Stuyvesant High School, and graduated from St. John's University. Answering a deeper call, he served with distinction in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as part of the 1st Air Cavalry Division. Bohdan was highly decorated, receiving the Bronze Star, Air Medal, and other commendations. But we can also call him a 'television star' as his valor was later chronicled in Ken Burns' 2017 documentary, "The Vietnam War," in which he appeared.
Following his military service, Bohdan built a successful professional life, serving as a Vice President at Chase Manhattan Bank and as a board member of St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hamilton. Yet even with his accomplishments, his greatest pride and joy came from his family - whether by blood or as a Godfather (which he was to many). - and his community. He epitomizes the phrase "true American hero."
Bohdan first married Halyna Staniszewskyj in 1971, and his life changed drastically in 1996 with her sudden passing. But soon, a beacon of light came to his life by way of Larysa Vorotsianko - and in 1998, their marriage marked another significant change as he became a father to Larysa's son, Roman.
There are no words in any dictionary to describe the kindness, the love or the generosity that Bohdan spread across the world. To know him, truly was to love him. To feast with him at a Thanksgiving table - was to be amazed by the precision and speed that he carved the family turkey.
Bohdan is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Larysa; his son, Roman (wife Ivanka); his siblings – sister Maria (husband Edwin Robinson), brother Myron (wife Jane) - as well as his aunt, Anastasia, cousins Roman Kozak (and wife Maryka of Tarrytown, NY), Rose Paprakis (of Toronto) and in Lviv, Ukraine Helen and Lesia Scibivovk. Also mourning his loss, Bohdan's nieces and nephews, including Cynthia, Andrew, Christopher and Laura and his grand-nephews, Andrew, Marko and John.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ, with a Parastas Service beginning at 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1195 Deutz Avenue, Trenton, NJ 08611.
Interment will follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery, 2590 Village Road, Langhorne, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the Pasichny family requests donations be made to the Revived Soldiers of Ukraine Fund or St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church in Trenton, New Jersey.
