Obituary of Brian Roller, Sr.
Brian Roller, Sr.
September 28, 1943 – August 20, 2024
Brian Roller, Sr., of Root, NY, passed away on August 20, 2024, after a prolonged illness. He was 80 years old.
Born in Johnstown, NY, on September 28, 1943, Brian grew up in Catskill, NY, where he graduated from Catskill High School in 1962. He worked as a general mechanic and paint crew supervisor at the Coxsackie Correctional Facility in Coxsackie, NY and later retired from Tryon facility in Gloversville, NY.
Brian was a free spirit who lived life on his own terms. He was known for his adventurous spirit, culinary skills, and extensive knowledge of fishing and hunting. His love for animals was evident in the care he provided for them, including his cherished blind dog, Neeka, whom he rescued as a puppy.
He was predeceased by his partner of 30 years, Catherine "Cathy" DeForest; his mother, Eliner Prostler Roller; his father, Albert J. Roller Jr; his sister, Sandra J. Roller Brooks; and his brother, Richard A. Roller.
Brian is survived by his children: Brian Roller, Jr. of Catskill, NY; Richard Roller of South Carolina; and Joya Roller Hartley of Hartsville, SC and Brenda Roller Lopez of Catskill, NY. He also leaves behind stepdaughters Candace DeMartino of New Jersey and Sasha DeForest of Canajoharie, NY; his sister Suzanne J. Roller Gardner of Catskill, NY; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A service and visitation will be held on Monday September 16th, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the chapel of Houghtaling and Hanley Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
