Carole Anne (Kaufman) Widmer, 86, of Sterling, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Monday, October 23, 2023 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster following a brief illness.
She was born March 13, 1937 in Akron to the late Robert and Florence (VonGunten) Kaufman and lived in Akron until May 10, 1958 when she married the love of her life, Harold L. Widmer. They moved to Wayne County where they raised their 4 boys and 1 daughter.
Carole graduated from Buchtel High School in 1954 and was baptized on August 9, 1959 in the Apostolic Christian Church along with her husband. She attended Akron General School of Nursing and devoted her life to being a Nurse, caring for many patients. She was employed by Akron General Hospital, the Apostolic Christian Home and was a private healthcare giver for many years before retiring in 2004.
God and family was the most important aspect of Carole's life. She would do her best to never miss sending a birthday card and gifts to her children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Carole enjoyed holiday celebrations with her family, sewing, knitting, crocheting, volunteering, camping, traveling and visiting the Apostolic churches across the country. She also loved cooking and entertaining, playing games, especially with her Domino Dollies and spending the winter months in Sarasota, FL at Windward Isle retirement village.
Surviving is her husband, Harold; children, Daniel (Virginia) Widmer, Dr. Darrell (Alice) Widmer, Brent (Alicia) Widmer, Bradley (Jody) Widmer and Laura (Tom) Gerber; grandchildren, Anne (David) Gasser, Steven (Lisa) Widmer, Sarah (Brandin) Bozsik, Robert (AnnMarie) Widmer, Angela (Scott) Spade, Polly Widmer, Neil Widmer, Brea (Kyle) Pausch, Brendan Widmer, Sabrina (Bradley) Morgan, Emma and David Widmer, Jeffrey (Kristen) Gerber, Melissa (Ryan) Klotzle, Amy (Weston) Skaggs and Courtney (Mic) Merriman; and 31 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marjorie Collins; brother, Donald Kaufman; and Aunt Edna "Nanny" VonGunten who helped raise Carole after her mother passed away at a young age.
Services will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the Rittman Apostolic Christian Church, 10699 Steiner Rd., Rittman with ministers of the church officiating. Burial will follow at the Apostolic Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Auble-Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman and from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to LifeCare Hospice or the Apostolic Christian Home.
